Say you have three partners in a business, one of them is retiring and the business wants to buy out his good will over a period of time. However, the goal is to have the retiring partner responsible for the taxes on the payments. How do you structure this so it passes muster with the irs. Basically, how can you characterize payments to the retiring partner over a period of time so that they are income to the partner, and not taxable to the partnership.

One thought is to have the retiring partner work for a few years till age 65, have disability insurance on the income. After that though the partner wont work but we want to continue the income payments for several years after.

Thanks

Last December my boiler broke. Someone from Valliant came round to fix it. I gave the company my credit card number and presumed I had paid the £200 bill. I have just received a letter saying that due to an internal error on their part, the money was not taken out of my account. Do I still have to pay?

What would you do if you know that you will be fired for something that you didn't do?

I got fired the other day. My boss claimed I did something. I did not do it. I have witnesses but only family ones.

I am going to Georgia Department of Labor today. I only worked there 1 day short of 3 months.

I am very angry that I got fired, but for someone thing I did not do really pisses me off

We got a home equity loan in June to consolidate credit card bills, another home equity line, and small construction loan. Things were fine until I was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and declared disabled. I receive social security, which is currently one-half of my former salary, but only until my children graduate when it will drop to one-third. We now realize that we cannot pay for my graduate school loan (simple bank loan-not federal), the car loan, the equity loan, AND the home first mortgage. We can pay for a cheaper car and the first mortgage for the home, but not the equity loan too. Can I put SOME not all of the equity loan onto my unsecured loan to "pay it down" so that when we file bankruptcy we can afford to keep our home?
