It would take a million years.
OK here goes.....I'm sorry I f I offended anyone with the idea of charity, but it is a last resort. To clear up a few points
1, I'm in a very strong, supportive relationship. He works and provides.
2, I can afford to bring the children up, but I can't afford to take a whole block month or so off, because I will not be able to pay my mortgage.
3, I hate the scum that don't contribute to taxes(for no good reason). I was told, by the government, that I was not entitled to a roof over my head, because I work (if I didn't work, I would be entitled to a flat).
4. If you didn't like the idea, find out a little more about me. Or shut the f*ck up. It was just an idea.
5. Thankyou for the few people who didn't "follow the crowd" with their answers.

I have a 3 year old son. We have put some money into a savings account and mutual funds in his name, so that when he's older he can make a deposit on a house, buy a car, pay College Fees, etc, etc.

Given that the money isn't going to be touched for 15 years does anyone want to suggest alternative investments that might give a better return than mutual funds? Please keep the suggestions sensible, medium risk is OK for some of the money but I don't want to have to tell my son he can't go to College because I blew the money on a business start up or golf course in the Sahara.

I work in retail, and of course, I've had to deal with my fair share of B.S. from customers. And not too long ago, I met a woman who once worked at a bookstore. She told me that she had facial piercings at the time she worked there, and that one day, as she was serving an old woman, the old bag told her that she couldn't stand to look at her face! The old woman's behavior was clearly unacceptable and she should have been confronted by a store employee (a manager, perhaps). Being a retail employee doesn't make someone a human punching bag!

in the top 1-2% of the country and would like to offer my skills to the right company. Pay commensurate with 'achievement' is specifically what I'm looking for; hourly wage is not something that I'd likely entertain. Always keeping my eyes open for the right opportunity!!!

I graduated from college almost 3 yrs ago w/honors. However, my last "real" job on my resume was 5 yrs ago, since then I worked in nightclubs, in which I was paid mostly cash, but payroll checks as well. I absolutely do not want to include this in my work history.

I make good money, but I am very ready for a real job again. I am not interested in starting a job in the corporate world in an entry level, low paying position, therefore, I need to fill in this gap.

I have friends that own businesses that are willing to vouch for me and say I worked there, or I was considering saying that I worked freelance as a consultant, using my friends as references. I hate to lie, but I won't even get an interview for a decent job otherwise. I am worried that I would be found out during the background check. How deep do employers go into your employment history?

What other advice could you give someone in my situation?

I'm a junior in college and live on my own.I have never had a checking account or debit card. I mainly always use cash, and I refuse to get a credit card. Recently, my mother suggested I get a checking account/debit card so I won't have loose money lying around my apartment (I tend to have hundreds of dollars lying around for rent and bills). So basically, what are the advantages and disadvantages of having a debit card? Does it cost money to use it certain places? I heard it did at Wal-mart.
