I live in New York City, and I recently got a temp job through an agency (also in NYC).

On my W4, I claimed “Exempt” from taxes because last year, I had no tax liability, and this year, I can reasonably expect the same (I had no income most of the year, plus significant medical expenses). The payroll guy at the temp agency, however, refuses to list me as “Exempt.” He says that I can only claim “Exempt” if I'm either (1) a full-time student, or (2) working on an H1B Visa. He says that this is a NYC regulation, but I haven’t been able to find information about this regulation anywhere.

I’ve shown him the section on the W4 that states the rules for claiming exemption. He says I’m just illegally trying to avoid paying taxes. He has refused to see any documentation I have that proves (according to the rules on the W4) that I should be exempt.

Here’s my ?: Who’s right? If I’m right and he refuses to let me claim “Exempt,” how can I stop him from doing this, eg, do I report him to IRS?

This my first job and find I am not paid even 50% to the industry Standard. Friends working in lower levels than me are earning more than me in other companies. Should I manage to stay back or should I go ahead searching for some Pay

I read in The Evening Standard yesterday that YouTube made no money, but I also read somewhere else that YouTube employ/employed over 60 people, so they must have made some kind of money if they employed people?

I need to make a slogan for a physical fitness & well being program for a company. The company sells Cat Construction equipment. Using one of these words, or one of your own that relates, can you make a mnemonic type phrase that would be a good name for such a program?
Words I have considered:
Iron, Mac, Track, MacTrack, Dozer, Improve, MacLife, LifeFit....come up with your own!

Example would be I.F.E.P.F. (initiative for employee physical fitness). Obviously, that one's not clever at all, nor does it form a word.

I recently moved to Chesapeake, VA so my spouse could accept a better job and I have been searching for a job for a month now. I have worked in Operations and Logistics for over a decade and am looking for similar work. I have my resume posted on Monster, Career builder and several other job sites. I set aside 3-4 hours a day to search various companies websites and apply for jobs yet, I have had NO feedback. I think that I should have gotten at least a couples nibbles. Having never been unemployed before, I am feeling very discouraged and my self-esteem is really starting to nosedive. My brother says that I should expect a job search to take 3-6 months. I think thats crazy. Am I being unrealistic or is he?

I haven't hunted for a job in a while, so I posted my resume on Monster.com as "public". Now I am getting all these calls from recruitment agencies, but not direct employers. Mostly these recruiters are looking for contract workers and consultants. So - does anyone have an experience working with a recruitment agency (good or bad), and what exactly is their role in the employment process? Also, any insider tips for job hunting? I've been sending out resumes for a little while and I am feeling discouraged.
