I'm applying for jobs at universities, and never know what to say when they ask about equal oppurtunities. Can anyone give me some ideas as to what employers are looking for. Questions are usually posed along the lines of "How would you ensure that our equal op policy is upheld?"

I was terminated from a position over a month ago and, have had no luck finding a new job even though I have been on several interviews. I am an HR Professional and have over 7 years generalist experience and a degree, so I know I am qualified. I am pretty sure the fact that I was terminated from my last job is what is preventing me from finding something new. Should I not tell prospective employers that I was terminated? I know my former employer will not give reasons why a person is no longer with the company when contacted for employment references and, I was not let go for anything major - my employer fired me for telling an employee we were trying to "save" that his manager was really impressed with his work and felt he was an asset to the team. This was deemed a breach of confidentiality even though the manager told me this in a social setting not in confidence. I know that it is unethical to lie on an application but, I'm feeling a bit desperate here. Any thoughts?

I am applying for a job in the city, the 1st interview I attended last week. At the interview itself I was invited back in again, and told they would call.

Yesterday, they called and asked me if I could see them this week. Now - my boss wont let me out for anything till next week due to holidays and the office being short staffed, which I explained to the potential new employers. They promised to phone back to see what they can do, but i've yet to hear anything.

Thing is, a friend of mine has now emailed me saying they wanted to make a decision by the end of the week - its got me in a panic. Have I blown my chances because I cant get the time off work? What would the best way to deal with this situation be? I'm emailing the lady who's dealing with the vacancy, but not sure what to ask, etc. Any help please!!!! I need this job!!!!

I hate going to job interviews, and having them expect to hear you "toot" your horn. It just sounds like bragging to me, and I hate ppl that brag about themselves. How do you tell about all the things you CAN do, w/o sounding so cocky?

A friend of mine has been changed to manange a new team due to poor performance of the new team under their previous team manager.

His current team have been very successful and for over five years kept the company on its target. Senior management has pushed him to mamage a team with no significant results.

There are a number of problems with the new team, 1. One team member is very loud, noisy and does not do much work, he uses the office computer to download music on his iPod and listern to his music all day, very abusive and often uses foul languages.

2. He do not have a good relation with the new team and they see him differently?

3. He know the new team member will be looking out to get to him.

Please advice genuinely what can he do on his first team meeting with the new employees?

Thank you,

I'm getting angry at this. I've been looking for work for over a month now, and if it's not some two-bit job agency promising you the best job in the world and then not even phoning you with ANY job, it's the sheer lack of any work in any sort of close proximity which isn't factory or warehouse work.
Does anyone know of any decent job websites (I've exhausted Fish4 and Monster) or any good agencies which will actually find you a job?
I could understand it if I was some joker who left school at 16 and has got three kids and been divorced twice already, but I've got an excellent standard of education, I'm articulate and well presented but somehow I'm "not suitable" for a poxy job doing admin for some bloody small time office. If I'm not qualified enough to do the job, then who is?!
It's almost enough to make you want to go back to University and spend another three years dossing around.
