I'm getting angry at this. I've been looking for work for over a month now, and if it's not some two-bit job agency promising you the best job in the world and then not even phoning you with ANY job, it's the sheer lack of any work in any sort of close proximity which isn't factory or warehouse work.
Does anyone know of any decent job websites (I've exhausted Fish4 and Monster) or any good agencies which will actually find you a job?
I could understand it if I was some joker who left school at 16 and has got three kids and been divorced twice already, but I've got an excellent standard of education, I'm articulate and well presented but somehow I'm "not suitable" for a poxy job doing admin for some bloody small time office. If I'm not qualified enough to do the job, then who is?!
It's almost enough to make you want to go back to University and spend another three years dossing around.

In addition, I'm not overlyfussed about finding my career job right now, I just want something half decent to tide me over until I do find my career.

when my friend was jobless, what he did was to get the work agency to help him. The pay is not that good and that was not the job that he exactly wanted. He did it for 6 months and changed his job after that, it is easier to get job while you are still employed and your value is higher. Some of the employer intentionally reduced your value when they found that you are jobless.

If you still can't get job, go for the internet business which requires less of your time and the one that will not make you feel headache with web designing, or which require IT knowledge. Second, choose the internet based company which offer you the opportunity and at the same time giving you the convenience to start the business. Third, choose the business, which does not require big money to start it.

I'd have to say that I have yet to have a truly difficult job. Right now I'm an Accounting Clerk and I guess that's the most difficult job I've had so far. The most stressful was definitely retail, working at a woman's clothing store. What a pain. Well, I'm only 19, so I still have many more jobs to explore.

ok, slow down. My wife is going through the same thing. So I feel for you. Two quick recommendations, then some suggestions:

1) Read "What Colour is Your (or My, I forget) Parachute". Skip the stuff you don't need, read what might be helpful. That's what we did...it's readily available at your local library. In fact, I will mention a few brief things from the book in a second.

2) shoot,,,forgot. Maybe come back here after.

Suggestions:

Worse way to look for a job is through a job agency.
Another bad way is through on-line stuff.

My wife is going door to door, asking people if they are hiring in her field. Literally. She drives around, finds an office park, and starts knocking on doors, carrying her resume with her.

If she isn't doing that, she is going through the yellow pages, calling up company after company. She has been at this for two months now, plus doing what you are already doing. It is tough work man. I'm just a teacher. Easy for me to find a job. But a real job? Yikes!!

Good luck, don't be frustrated. Treat your job hunt as an 8 hour a day job, you will find something.

Unfortunally this is a sign of the times. Lots of jobs are being shipped overseas because the wages there are a lot lower than here. I have been having the same problem for the past 6 months. I can't seem to find something. Well I did, but it was with my old boss, and it's commission only, but it does not pay the bills. You may want to try Hotjobs.com by Yahoo. I got a couple of calls from employers that posted their jobs on there before.

Also study an open university degree as you can do this as an when (I am studying a course as well as looking for work) You could commute these are all the options i have tried i even thinking about taking a menial job in my career to get me on the ladder again. I am a chef/Hotel manager. I have had 5 years off from my industry due to children So i do understand good luck for the future.

You haven't told us what it is you are trained to do, what your qualifications are in. It might be that you are actually overqualified for a certain job. Employers do not like taking on overqualified people because they'll be very bored with the job very quickly and will leave quickly. Have you got a skill/knowledge that you can perhaps sell? You could set yourself up in a small business where you've got something to offer. You might be destined to do this on your own... you never know. Another thing to look at is your interview techniques: are they good? Can you really sell yourself at interviews? I think you should clearly identify what it is you want to do, but make sure that you are not over-qualified for it or it is not a job that is far too easy for you to do. However, it that is the kind of job you want to do then simply say at the interview that you are studying for your ....... qualifications and you need a steady job to support you in your studies as you cannot rely on your parents for this. Maybe they'll like that and want to support you and take you on.

Monster , Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals are also becoming a increasingly popular way to
get hired.
