A few years ago we won a lawsuit against MSDW for negligance and fraud. I have been contacted by a company that is telling me that we may be eligilble to file under the IRS tax code 165 for a refund of some sort. I'm a bit leary, but of course curious... we were awarded money from the lawsuit but nothing close to what we had lost. Is this a legitimate code and if so could we get money back?

I am looking to incorporate a small business corporation. My accountant advised a LLP, but I am not sure if a corp. would be more prudent. Also I am vaccilating between incorporating in NJ, MD, or VA. Anyone know any major advantages to doing it one way over another??

Also, I could in theory incorporate in a state like delaware, but I am thinking that I should do it in a state where i reside or do business. Thanks in advance.

My grandmother's home has just been sold. This home has a lot of sentimental value. While I know there is no way that I could persuade the new owners to let me have the home, I am praying that someday in the future this home will be up for sale again and I would be able to buy it. I'm only 22

Let's say this were to happen. From now until then, what would be the best way to save the money quickly to put a downpayment on the home? I started thinking about buying a foreclosed home in the area in a year from now, but I don't know anything about foreclosures. All I know about real estate is that if you buy a home and eventually sell it, you will most likely profit from the sale.

Could someone advise me about foreclosures (in layman's terms, since I don't know real estate lingo)? And has anyone ever heard of an actual case where this actually happens (my scenario that is)?

I know this is a crazy pipe dream, but I feel like this home needs to belong to a family member, maybe me

Good afternoon all. I was just wondering if there are any accountants out there that could give me insight into the world of accounting. I am currently a senior majoring in accounting with a minor in MIS. I'm working as a corporate tax intern for the summer with a fairly large corporation (NYSE listed).

How much of a leg up will I be if I can manage to get a job with one of the Big 4 firms, how do I go about putting myself in a position to land a Big 4 job, what kind of accounting interests you, what fields are most likely to pay well with experience?

I know it's a pretty broad question, but I'm just looking for insights and experiences from accountants outside of my office. Thanks

I have a credit card that's been closed, it still has a balance I'm paying off. I turned it off in hopes of paying it off faster, but it's going slow. Now I want to lower the interest rate, but the credit card company said I cannot do that unless I turn it back on. We are currently selling our house, and I don't want anything that will negatively affect my credit score for the new home we will buy, so I'm hesistant, but I would really like to get a lower rate too. Is that not true, should I just keep asking for supervisors so I can get it lowered while it's still turned off?

Is it correct that as a NJ employer, I must withhold NJ taxes for all employees (even employees that reside in New York state) and that I should not withhold NY State or NY City taxes?

If so, how do employees that live in New York state and possibly New York City, receive a credit for taxes paid in NJ?

Can my business do any witholding for NY State and/or NY City taxes?

Can I put my name on title as joint owner/Tenents in common with right of survivorship without written permission? Are there any Legal Ramifications?

Would like to hire someone to collect rent, mow lawn, and other maintainance. Could I contact a property manager in town that would handle that type of thing for a fee if the things he had to do only took a few hours a week or would they just not want to bother with it?
