My business is in the construction Industry. I have thought about the yellowbook, but the new version will not be released until March 2007 in my area.

For a starting business in the Construction Industry, the INTERNET is NOT the way to go. If you want proof, ask the next construction worker you see about the Net and see what he tells you.

Tons of other options for you too. I'm a professional marketing consultant in Austin and try to customize my recommendations to the specific company, its goals, and locality, so I can only give you general information here.

Since your business is limited by people who can actually make it there, advertise as specifically local as you can.

A few ideas:

1) Flyers & Business Cards - Who are your customers & where do they shop (e.g. grocery, home improvement stores, etc)? Post flyers where your customers frequent.

2) Advertise Locally -- Newspapers, Craigslist, Yahoo! Local

3) Word of Mouth -- Offer a great service & people will talk.

4) Mailers -- Send out coupons, specials, etc.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Advertise in a local magazine. My city has a free magazine called the Clipper that focuses on local business that does constriction, remodeling, resurfacing, etc. I have called a couple of those businesses myself. See if there's such a publication in your area. If not, maybe you should start a small newsletter or magazine-like publication to promote your business.

Networking with Realtors is a good way to get your name out to people buying land to build on.

Real estate magazines(if it is within your budget) give you pretty good coverage and they are usually free to the readers so people pick them up all them time.

Join your local chamber of commerce.

Well there all kinds of ways to market your business. Do you have a budget for advertising? You do not have to break the bank to advertise.

Billboards can be lucrative. Word of mouth is the cheapest. Flyers could be beneficial.

go to the fair of your industry, make brochures and spread them with related companies as painting, gardening, plumbing or similar.
