How old is the debt? If it's less than 7 years old and it's a legitimate debt, then it belongs on your credit report. That's why credit reports exist. Otherwise what purpose does it serve if not to represent your credit accurately?

If it's less than 7 years old, you can pay it. You'll still get dinged as having paid very late, but at least you paid and that will help.

If it's older than 7 years, contact the credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian and Equifax) and tell them to remove it because it's too old.

If it's an error, dispute it with those same credit bureaus. Go to each site to find out how.

If it is a legitimate debt, but you feel you shouldn't have to pay it for some reason, you are allowed to add on a brief statement about why you feel you shouldn't have to pay the debt. It may help a little. Contact the 3 bureaus to do that too.

pay it. On the bottom of the credit report, a lot of times it has the phone numbers and addresses of the creditors. call them, give them your account number (should be in the report) and pay it. Warning though. Your credit will drop a few points (sometimes as much as 30 depending on how far back the debt it) for a few months, then get better slowly.

If you are looking to buy a home, there are some mortgage brokers that can question a credit bureau entry & while it is being investigated, it will legally not appear on the mortgage brokerage firms credit bureau report for you which is forwarded to the mortgage lender. Sorry I can't remember the name of it. I used Republic Mtg in Utah which utilizes this system. Good Luck!

that's an superb question! It particularly shows who the sequence brokers are who respond to Yahoo questions! seek for people who inform you to pay the debt. NONSENSE!!! enable me clarify why i've got carried out this many situations in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it would not somewhat sink in to our sequence agent acquaintances here. a million) The Statute of barriers in Colorado is 3 years. meaning the sequence business enterprise can not sue you in courtroom for this debt, as a results of fact they did not act without delay sufficient to take criminal action. in the event that they attempt to sue you, then tell the choose the SOL has expired and that they're going to at present push aside the case. 2) The credit reporting era is 7 years, commencing up from the date of the 1st delinquency. In 2 years, this might without delay drop out of your credit document. 3) Your credit is produced from countless issues. One pertains to the age of the delinquency. New products are given greater magnitude, so whilst they first look they have a extensive result on your credit rankings. As time is going via, they are much less significant and your score improves slightly each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. After 5 years they don't result your score that undesirable. yet once you pay this debt off, they're going to replace your checklist to tutor a "0" stability. yet all the unfavorable recommendations continues to be, and it will proceed to harm your credit. To make it worse, it now turns this merchandise right into a contemporary activity, which. via paying off this debt you have truthfully harm your credit. sequence brokers won't in any respect inform you that, and as you will locate they're going to misinform you approximately this. So enable me make this element sparkling lower back. till the credit deletes the item out of your document, paying off the debt would not advance your rankings. 4) Why are you even apprehensive approximately this debt? they are actually not harassing you. the only logical reason may well be which you're considering a great own loan (vehicle or loan) and that they are presenting you with a stressful time approximately this unpaid debt. My suggestion is to forget approximately it and wait the two years for it to drop off. undergo in innovations, once you fail to pay a debt, the creditor provides 2 alternatives. the two pay your debt or they're going to injury your credit for 7 years. nicely, they particularly ruined your credit! Why on earth do you need to pay this debt two times?

If the balance is still there with the company, contact the company and clear it up with them. I am sure they will work something out with you to get the payment. You just have to work with them. If it is old, you will probably have some late charges or something like that to pay, but still, if you want off the record, clear it up with the company.
