Well I've been taking pictures for almost 4 month's, had one of my photo's published and copy written. I'm looking for tips on camera settings, I've been messing with the settings myself and not sure if it's good considering I'm still an amateur and not sure what every setting does.. I use one lense the most and it's the AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3 5.6 G2 ED, I also use my newest lense, AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm 1:4-5.6G ED with VR. I'm trying to focus most of my experience on portraits and some landscapes such as sunsets and sun rises. I've yet gotten an external flash but I'll be getting the SB-600 i-TTL. What I'm asking is how do I get the best quality out of my camera using manual settings?

i prefer not using flash. I don't have a DsLr, just a standard slr-like camera so i have some control over manual settings. I don't like using a tripod because it's mostly for candid and spontaneous shots.

Pretty much my photo teacher is a moron and told us to take pictures of things that show movement and to take only two pics of a moving car.

Anyways, anyone have any ideas as to what i can take a pic of, it has to be Black and White and i have a regular camera.

-Light (Direct light-Side light-Front light-Diffused-Scattered)

I just need nice ideas, for example taking a photo of a shadow of a tree next to a house ..etc...anything will do!

(not digital) I have no idea where to start, but love the effects of black and white. I had a look on Jessop's website, but I just became confused, as I don't know which film to pick to start off with. Would someone please let me know which film to use in which conditions, so I can at least make a start, and also let me know if there is any special equipment I might need. I would also like to know where to have my films developed, and how much it is likely to cost. Is it possible to do it yourself?

What's the best black and white for contrasty images and low noise?
And what's the best colour negative for low noise but great colours (not portraits)?
I don't want big long technical answers of how film works or to be told to enrole into photo school. I just want a plain simple answer.

Im looking for a camera. so uh can someone go to a website and tell me whats best and cheapest please?

No, this is not the ever-present "I need to add color" question.

When converting a color image to B&W, my images, even if they have great contrast, lack it in the conversion. What's wrong? An example is portraits. I take a great contrast portrait, then convert it to B&W. The subject looks "muddy."

If at all possible, please tell me what I'm doing wrong. And, if you could suggest a way without using Photoshop CS3/CS2. All I have to work with is PictureProject Software. I know this is not much, but if I had $600 to spend on photography, I would go for a nice lens, not a program.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Canon A560 that I use for photos of clothing on ebay. I recently switched from a Minolta SLR (film) that I've used for years. I've noticed with the Canon A560 that the colors aren't as accurate as I'm used to: a blue sweater with a purple tint will simply appear blue w/o any tint, or a sweater that's silver and black with gold highlights will somehow lose the gold. I've experimented with different lighting (250 watt - regular & tungsten) and played with the settings on the Canon (white balance, My Colors, etc). Whats the best way to achieve the color accuracy I'm looking for? This is frustrating since I never had these problems with the old film format.

I'm taking a photography class and I want a camera with a really detailed picture that doesn't blur up a whole lot when I want to zoom in, etc.

I want it to look as close to professional photography as I can.

I also have a limit for something between $100 and $325.

Thanks it advance! :)

I have a photo that I am about to send off as a christmas card. It is a beach cruiser (bike) wrapped in christmas lights at sunset. The problem is I couldn't plug in the lights when I took the picture, but want to try to make them look like they're on. Can anyone explain, or point me to a tutorial, on how I can birghten the individual bulbs?

I'm creating a website for a church, and I am also the photographer for the church website... On the website, there are several pictures of members of the congregation, childrens' church, etc... My question is, do I need to get them to sign something in order for their (or their child's) pictures to be posted on the website? Are there any laws that say I have to do so, or can I just post the photos on the website without their permission?
