You have changed the display mode on your LCD monitor to show you the overexposed areas. Personally, I prefer this setting as I know right away if I have problems with overexposure, but if you want to get rid of it, you can. I don't know exactly how the Olympus works, but on some of my cameras, you just press the multiselector dial on the bottom or top to cycle through the various display modes. On some others, you do the same thing by pressing it to the right or left. Just try anything. View a stored image on your monitor and press the button up. If it goes to the next stored image, then try pressing it sideways.

When all else fails - READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for your camera. Apparently your granddad changed a setting and now you need to undo whatever he did.

Happy reading and good luck.
