Hi everyone..

Can you please give me good ideas for pictures with:

-Shadows
-Texture
-Light (Direct light-Side light-Front light-Diffused-Scattered)

I just need nice ideas, for example taking a photo of a shadow of a tree next to a house ..etc...anything will do!

Also, does anyone know the best way to get clear (focused) photographs??

Shoot early in the morning or in the late afternoon - 1 hour after sunrise and 1 hour before sunset. Use as sidelighting (as you face your subject the sun will be at your right or left).

Look for buildings with vertical corrugated siding to show shadows.

Look for texture in the surfaces of bricks or concrete blocks or the ends of pieces of wood or on tree trunks.

Lie on your stomach and photograph side-lit gravel.

Photograph the landscape on an overcast day.

Photograph in the fog.

If your camera is manual focus and you're having trouble focusing, try this exercise. Tape a piece of newspaper to a flat, evenly lit wall. Stand back 3 or 4 feet and focus on the newsprint. If you can read it in your viewfinder its in focus.

If your camera has a "split image" viewfinder use it with vertical or angled lines. This is a horizontal line in the clear circle in your viewfinder. As you focus on a vertical or angled line, simply bring the "split image" from this -_ to this --.

An excellent book (IMO) for you to study is "Object & Image: An Introduction To Photography, Third Edition" by George M. Craven.

Actually, this is an important challenge/opportunity for you which goes beyond photography. This is a situation which may repeat itself many times in future years, in one form or another. Since you love photography, you should not allow someone else to ruin your enjoyment of it. That takes controlling your own thoughts and emotions regarding this teacher. You need to make a conscious effort to enjoy your hobby despite this problem. I would recommend you check the library for the book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." Its reading can be challenging, but it explains these concepts.

If you are into photography I would look at subscribing to some photography magazines. Or take a class at your local college. You will learn so much from them. One of the best pictures I have taken was in a lawn where the grass was a bit on the tall side. I had my kids lay on their stomachs and rest their chins on their hands and cross their ankels and bend their leg at the knee so their feet were up. I then got on the ground and put the camera as close to the ground as I could and took the shot so it showed the tall grass, the kids and then up so it was from a fun angle. I have lots of ideas for shots involving kids if you want more contact me. I could even show you some of my work. I also have friends in the business of photography if you need some other people to talk to about ideas.

Use a tripod to have pictures in focus. Many of the low end cameras have a shutter release delay which make it almost impossible to get a good picture.

Shadows: trees reflecting in water, fences, graphic buildings,
Texture: fall leaves on a tree close up, brick walls, hay balls close up,
Light: Reflection in water, water drops wile still hanging, shooting into a tree showing the sun shining through the leaves, sky pictures at different time of day, sun dial at different time of day

I hope this helps
