First, get started on your portfolio. Try www.onemodelplace.com, or www.modelmayhem.com, and start with a free model profile. Thru these sites, you can contact other models, photographers, MakeUp Artists, stylists, etc... You can get their opinions, and work with many of them on portfolio development. A process called TFP/cd, or "trade for photos on CD" will let you get some phtoos to use for your portfolio, nd profile, for little or no expense.
To be succesful, it takes a lot of work to model succesfully, for a long period.
Things that could help, are to stay in shape. Keep your cardio in top shape. Modeling can be taxing...
Practice wearing the highest heels you can. Make them your everyday shoes, and get comfortable walking, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, etc.... No matter what you model, heels will be a part of the outfit. The more comfortable you look, the better when auditioning. A pair of high heeled boots wont hurt.
Learn as much as you can about skin care and hair care. Dont let anything effect them in a negative manner. Treat them well.
Learn the business side of things, from contract negotiations, to copyright and releases. Also, learn about 1099's, taxes, obligations of contract employees, and things like healthcare, insurance, etc... Always understand what your getting into.
It can be a heartbreaking business if your not tough. Just because the first 10-15 auditions dont get you a job, doesnt mean you wont find one. Sometimes they will have 20-300 models audition for just a few jobs.
Practice your looks and facial expressions. Use a mirror, or video camera. If you can learn to give a look easily during am audition, the better. It is not easy to be told to look serious, and give a serious look. Chances are, you will give a furious look, or even a funny look, but not serious.
Join any local groups for models, photogs, etc..., and do as much networking as you can. Make a good impression at a get together, and you will have a step up during an audition.
There are lots of people out there that will try to take advantage of you. Dont let them. Assume everyone is lying to you, and make sure your protected physically, and legally.

This question has been asked, and answered many times before, but here goes one more time:
Read the book by Nina Blanchard, "How to Break into Modeling and Acting" It is the best compilation of everything you should know with no "hype."
One word of caution, there are many people out there who would say they want you as a model but be VERY cautious.
Many are trying to get clients for either their modeling schools, photography studios or not-so-nice businesses. These people will play to your ego, ask for money to "promote" you or ask for other favors. Don't let them guide you with high hopes and promises. Modeling is a tough business and is very competitive. Being pretty is a small part of it.

First find out what types of modeling you are suited for. To be on a runway, you need to be about 5'9" tall and height/weight proportionate.
If you are significantly shorter or taller than this, you may need to model calendars, swimwear and promotions, but can still model. There are many short models that earn a living.
To become one, go to modelmayhem.com and join for free. Download a few pics and ask for TPF/CD which is Time for Photos on a CD.
Photographers get to use your photos and you get to use them to create a portfolio.
Don't bother with modeling schools or ever pay for photos unless you just have to have a shoot with a particular photographer.
Never sign with an agency that needs money in order to represent you.
If you really have talent and looks, apply at some agencies like Ford and Elite. Check their websites to find the office nearest you and the open call dates and times.
Good Luck.

First you need an agency to sponsor you, of course.
1. Go to a website like www.formodels.com or www.elitemodel.com to apply for modeling.
2. On Elite click, "Be Discovered. On Ford, click "apply to be a model. [i'm not sure where exactly, don't worry it's very easy to find.
(you can also attend open calls in your location.)
3. Basically, fill out the forms, upload pictures small enough, and good luck!
*KEEP IN MIND TO BE A MODEL, YOU HAVE TO BE AT THE SHORTEST: 5'7"
I APPLIED FOR ELITE ONCE AND THEY SAID I HAD TO BE 5'9", IM 5'7" AND IM 13!!
well, you don't HAVE to be tall, but if you're not you're barely ever accepted.
Another thing you can do is if you want to apply to be a model for abercrombie/Abercrombie and Fitch, you can go to, "help", "about us" and send you information.
GOOD LUCK
something else you should know, NEVER NEVER go to agencys that ask for money. On the Tyra Banks show, she said those are scams.
Don't think that you can just send your stuff in and just be model, as there are millions of girls that want to be models.

Have your mom look a modeling agency.
Call the agency for a phone interview (if they're intrested in you they'll set up a live interview)
Have a portfolio with all of your pictures ready.
Go to the audition/live interview.
If they're interested in you they'll get back to you as soon as they've mad their decisions.
*If they ask for money the agency may be fake.
*Good luck with your modeling career!

step 1. refrain from eating.
step 2. concern yourself with nothing but your looks.
step 3. pay a photographer to create a portfolio and try to sell to agencies.
