Most areas have a historical society where you can get copies of older images. You can also ask residents who are older than that to "share" their saved images with you and allow you to make copies of the ones you find useful. Although it may seem silly, the best photo records are from private collections and individual's albums. Although 50 years may seem like ancient to you, I was 15 then and have pics of my parents from the early 1900's. So talk to the "ol' geezers;" the search may not only give you an excellent collection, but will be fun to research.

Another source of photos would be a search of the local newspaper's back copies.
