I'm planning on doing a beauty photoshoot, using my new 350D camera and a couple of friends. I want to know what to use to make the faces of models well lit and to show the beauty of the make up used. I've been awestruck by Marcelo Benfield's work, and I would sure love to try something that has the same lighting properties.
Please supply any tips for beauty photography aside from lighting ones, and what are the best properties to be used for such photosessions with the camera.

Does anyone know who won Technology & Learnings Photo contest? I checked the site address that I had from the information about the contest, but the site doesn't seem to be updated. I know the winners were released before the New Year.
If you know who won or the correct site address, please help me!

I am a hobby photographer - generally landscapes and some cricket action shots and model photos. I find that the majority of my images are not quite crisp enough. I use manual focus and it seems in focus when I look through the viewfinder, but once I see the photo on my computer (I use a digital SLR camera) there's only ever a very small percentage of my shots really in focus properly and the rest are wasted.
What am I doing wrong? Is it my eyesight perhaps? Do you have any tips to get better results other than using autofocus, which as we all know isn't always ideal and doesn't always give a great result anyway?
Also my photos generally seem quite dull with not much contrast and not much colour vibrance. How do I improve this? I'm guessing with Photoshop - which I really need to learn more about.

I am in the process of dabbling with photography and I can't find a program to buy like the professionals have. The kind that resizes a person if their not so photo worthy in certain areas, and bruises, and objects in the background. Something like that.

I found a woman who will take my wedding pictures for $500, but the catch is that she only gives you the disk to print out the pictures for yourself. Well, I don't want to take them somewhere cheap where the pictures look bad. Are there actually places to go and give them the disk where they can make the pictures turn out great? I'm not looking for a specific place, just curious if there is such a place. If so...any idea on how costly it is? I'm trying to see which is cheaper, this way, or just getting a regular photographer for about $2,500. Thanks for any help. Have a great weekend.

Which lens should I buy?

I like the 75-300 because of its upper range and it has IS. I like the 70-200 because it's an L, doesn't telescope, and has a non-rotating front element. The difference in price is negligible ($557 vs. $660 on amazon).

I don't intend on selling pictures, but I don't want poor quality photos either. Basically, it comes down to IS with longer range vs. L.

If you've used either of these lenses, please post your likes/dislikes.

I'm not a professional so please give me just the simplest of ideas like whether to be in a dark area and looking at a well lit area or to do it during daylight but next to something dark, or bright or etc. Please give me some ideas.

I'm from the south and recently moved to Maryland where I've been able to experience snow for the 1st time. I have been trying to take pictures of the snow falling for friends from back home but they never seem to come out right.

Obviously besides being able to use any electronic signals to your camera like with canon EOS lenses, is there any downside to using a mount adapter for lenses?
