I am a children's photographer and a mom of two. I have taken my kids to lots of different places and done my own pictures too. Wal-Mart's one-pose package is a good deal if you get a decent first shot.

Taking pictures of my own children and it is WAY harder than taking pictures of other people's children. My mentor says it's because with other photographers they are on their "company manners". And it's really difficult to be in the picture if you are behind the camera, even if you have a timed feature.

At the risk of sounding like a plug, Sears is usually pretty good. They do everything from newborns to big groups and offer a wide variety of products at a reasonable price. Just make sure that you don't purchase the additional crap that they try to add-on.

The other thing you might want to try is checking the internet for photographers in your area and looking at their work and pricing. Then you can make an informed decision.

I used to work at Sears but now I have my own business and I take my family to Concept Photography in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Why don't you try with your own digital camera? You can make dozens of shots and choose the best one. Plus, I can assure you it is fun to gather the whole family and do a photo session..:-)
