never understood why people would want to own a painting over $10 million. why not get a good artist to draw the same painting and save the money. if you had a eye for artwork, the paintings should express the same feeling.

I am taking an art class and am in need of suggestions or ideas of where I can look for ideas for a themed series of several different paintings. Are there any good books you would recommend? I know I should attend art galleries and have looked online..but I was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas that they've used? (Sorry this is so long!)

Is there anywhere on the net where you can send away a photograph and get a portrait painted then buy it? Or if not something similar?

I have several paintings I would like to sell, but I am unsure of how much to sell them for. I have sold paintings for quite a bit but that is not the norm. I don't want to give them away byet I do not want to charge a huge amount for them. Some people cannot afford them, but they like them . A gallery owner friend of mine says once an artist starts off selling at a higher price they should never sell anything of that size for less. But not everyone has that kind of money. What do you think I should do? I would like a decent for me yet easy on my customers kind of pricing--- if such a thing exists. Any ideas at all would help. Right now I am overloaded with works and need to get them out there. Help! :)

Hi, I'm currently working on a Byzantine inspired religious iconography painting and would like to use some sort of gold material that appears almost like gold flakes. I was wondering if anyone out there knows what's the best material to work with to achieve this effect. Gold foil? Gold powder? Gold flakes? All tips greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all.

I'm doing a project for my Colour Theory class where we have to paint a still life of three objects using acrylic paint. However, I'm having trouble rendering the objects in my painting. With black and white, I had no problem but with colour, it seems a lot harder than just using different shades of the colour of the object. Can anyone give me some tips or maybe some websites to help? Thanks.

I have a painting that was handed down from my grandfather, who was a wealthy man before he died in Laredo, Texas. It is an actual painting and not a print out or anything like that. It was in a set of 2 or 3 others. It is of a man playing the oboe (I think that's the instrument). Anyhow the signature is either "SmiroLav" or "SmiroLan" or "SmiroJav" or "SmiroJan" LOL. I have no idea what the name could be, and that is because I'm unfamiliar with any artists' names.

My mother painted a copy of this painting which appeared on The Radio Times cover, Christmas about 1964 (from memory).

I think its a copy of a John Piper detail, but not sure. Can anyone help?
