Before acrylics came oils before oils came tempera an egg based yolk medium the only benefits known of these mediums is their longevity (the jury still wavering in the case of early acrylics). But anything can be used on canvas just ensure you have the right undercoat or primer for ensuring it sticks and a top clear coat or varnish may be additional insurance too.

You CAN but you will get a different effect, especially depending on the paint and canvas.

Some paint and canvas are incompatible... it will come right off quickly. You will want to lay it flat and wait for it to dry for days, then use a hair spray or something offical to coat in light layers over the paint over and over again to prevent problems.

Yup.

Actually no problem what so ever. Just don't expect the water color paint to react like it would on paper. Poster paint is very suitable for canvas.

I just found some canvas at Hobby Lobby that is made especially for water color and if Hobby Lobby has stretched canvas for water color then I'm sure other art supply stores would have it as well. I'm looking forward to trying it myself.
Good Luck

Yeah Yeah, corse u can. Just dont add alot of water. Try and keep it dry bcoz the canvas wont soak up the water. Just use lots of paint and not much water. *!*
