A room or a hall is devoted in this museum to paintings by Ambrosius Benson and by the people who were his colleagues and/or those painters who were influenced by his style. This is known as his circle. So the room is actually named for the paintings that are being shown here.

Hi! What I believe it means when it says "Circle of Ambrosius Benson," (as with reference to Madonna and Child, n.d. Oil on panel, 41 7/8 x 30 3/16 in. Crocker Art Museum) is that the painting is attributed to his style, as done by a follower, perhaps a student or even a peer in his employ as it seems he was quite wealthy and may have maintained a workshop.
