the basic colour wheel is:
Prime colours= red, yellow, blue
Secondary(or complimentary) colours= orange, green, purple
Black & white are not 'true' colors, but belong to the color palate.
With all of the above you should be able to create any other color needed with only a few exceptions
~ metal based colors: gold, copper, brass, silver, mettalics etc.
~ colors with irredesance, such as pearl
~ fluorescent colors
The crayola crayon company has over 1 million different color crayons

Looking at the colour charts of house paint makers they must have teams of people that think up all their weird colour names. Personal favourite colour name cerulean for sky blue.
