Can anyone tell me about this painting?

Question

My mother painted a copy of this painting which appeared on The Radio Times cover, Christmas about 1964 (from memory).

I think its a copy of a John Piper detail, but not sure. Can anyone help?

Hi! Off the top of my head it looks something like the work of the fabulous Marsden Hartley but here are ALL the Radio Times covers for you to look through...I couldn't find it (in the immediate time frame you gave) but I'm sure that you will:) I hope that this helps!

Great "treasure hunt" question - still keeping me busy.

The Radio Times cover is from Xmas 1965 - direct link below (same source as "Guess who..).

Your mother must have a phenomenal memory - an almost exact reproduction.

I would agree that it looks like John Piper - link below to a site which shows most of his works.

I can't identify a single painting ( or detail) ....I wonder if it was a collage from a variety of different works. Certain elements can be seen in some. A commissioned piece ?

Haven't given up yet.

Are you sure it's John Piper? looks more like Graham Sutherland to me. Coventry Cathedral designs etc.
