What else can I use to wash my oil paints out of my brushes? I don't have any paint thinner or gasoline on hand I want to paint, but I don't have anything to wash my brushes out with. So any ideas that work?

does anyone know anything about Pieter Breugal's "hunters in the snow" painting? i need to find things that represent humanism, individualism, and secularism within the painting. (during the renaissance)

that's the painting.
it'd be better if you had some background information and aren't just interpreting it for the first time
thanks!

I absolutely have to learn how to paint properly. I've been painting for a year, but none of my paintings have any depth whatsoever. I'm 15 and none of the art classes in school have provided me with the knowledge I need. I can't draw or paint anything that looks realistic. So far, it's all been cartoony nonsense and scribbley nothings. Anyway, I need some tips and maybe a site that would give me what I'm looking for. Thanks a lot in advance.

by Kate Kretz-- She expresses how the public worships celebrities. I think it is an excellent analogy and an eye opener. This painting reminds me that celebrities are not Gods to be worshipped. I think that is the point she is trying to make in this painting. No where does the artist suggest that Jolie is the Virgin Mary. What she is trying to point out is that people worship celebrities as though they WERE worthy of praise like God. So, if when you saw this painting and immediately thought it was a portrayal of The Virgin Mary, maybe you better check yourself, too!

I have an original watercolor painting that was heavily soiled during Hurricane Katrina, and I was wondering what the best way to clean it would be, or should I even bother?
The painting itself looks a little dusty, which is a thin layer of muck, consisting of whatever was flaoting around in the water, but it doesn't make the actual image look terribly bad. My concern more than the looks is, will the dirt layer cause the paper to deteriorate faster? Will cleaning it hurt it even more than the dirt itself? How do you clean a watercolor painting? I have cleaned hundreds of oil and acrylic paintings, but they aren't as fragile. I thought since the image stayed during all that water it could be cleaned, but I just don't have a clue how to go about it. Is there a chemical or anything I can use? Know a good restorer? Please help! Thank you in advance! :) By the way tha painting is done with top quality watercolors and is on top quality paper with high rag content.
