It depends on how thick you put it on, and how much ventilation the room has. To get it to dry faster, use the ceiling exhaust fan if you have on and set up a box or oscilating fan in the doorway. If the paint has any color or tint to it, you can also look to see if they paint is dark. Most paint dries much darker.

Its probably best to do one coat a day to be on the safe side. those are just methods to speed up the process.

Unless the paint is acrylic based paint, the paint usually dries faster on plaster or any permeable walling such as drywall can dry approximately less than thirty minutes, but to make sure I would add an extra 10 minutes to let it dry then you can semi-gloss your bathroom. If the paint however is a thicker oil-based paint, then it takes even longer to dry than with the paint you get at a local hardware store. It is rare though to paint with a oil-based paint. To make it the color you really want before you apply the semi-gloss is to add a second or third coat so you would not let the previous color of the bathroom to show. The paint, depending on how much you apply, can also dry in less than 4 hours because the thick you apply, the less time the rest of the paint has to dry. The reason is because the oxygen in the air is combined with the silicon coloring to create a dry reaction where the liquid is contained in the paint, and the paint and the air creates a chemical reaction. The reason why the room smells funny when you paint because the paint is releasing chemicals in place of oxygen. Speaking of oxygen, that is the reason it would be a good idea to keep the room well ventilated. Good luck with your bathroom. I am sure it will look great.

I would wait until every layer is at least touch dry, otherwise you'll have a weird runny mass of paint that will take forever to dry properly.

I'm in the middle of doing just that! I wait a half a day, although I understand that the time required is less than that.
