I need assistance for a class I am teaching and Google seems to have
let me down. (more than likely I am searching under the wrong words). I
am teaching about portraiture and the asymmetry of the face; I want to
explain the open and closed sides of the face (also known as recessive
and dominant). Does anyone know of a web site that would have
information about this coupled with portraits with the two left sides
mirrored and the two right sides mirrored? I am aware of lighting and
posing techniques to correct this, I am mainly looking for samples.

Thanks!

This is my first attempt at doing a mixed black and white / colour photo. I felt that the bird was so beautiful that it deserved to stand out from the rest of the picture hence the use of this technique. Any comments welcome. Thank you.

I have a monthly "job" that I shoot for our local art gallery. All I have to do is document the scene with a few general shots. I also choose a few pieces to be featured in the newspaper for publicity.

The problem is... There are fluorescent tubes running the length of the room. There are halogen floodlights aimed at most pieces. For an overall view, I still need to use flash to light the room.

What would you do for this setting? How would you set the whtie balance?

Generally, if you use flash, it overpowers anything else and it's okay, but in this setting, I don't know how to take a custom white balance. You'd have to take the flash into account when you set it and I don't know how to do that.

I've placed a few quick shots on Flickr as examples of where I am ending up.

I am in love with photography and yet I have no idea what I'm doing. I have people who are willing to work with me but I used to do my shoots outside in the sun, when it was warm...however I live in Canada, long winter season and well where do I shoot in the meantime...any ideas?

What would you do in order for you to be "discovered"? What are the steps that you would take? You have a great art talent and can draw just about anything, except that no one knows you.

A friend of mine is coming over from Thailand on Saturday and wants to visit most, if not, all the museums in London with famous works of art by classical artists like Raphael, Michelangelo etc.

Which museums should I take him to as he will only be in London for 2 days?

About a year ago I read a how-to piece where you take 20+ photographs of a single subject over 10 or so hours of varying daylight, then overlay those images (in Photoshop?) to even-out the lighting. In the resulting image, the sky, the subject, everything is similarly lit, with few or no shadows.

I think I saw it on Wikipedia, which had a link to the how-to piece.

Can someone give me any link to point me in the right direction?

Does the latest PhotoShop version now simplify this process, to minimize manual fussing?

I have what may potentially be a valuable painting, but then again it might not. I don't want to pay for an appraisal only to find out that it's not worth the price of the appraisal.
I've tried to decipher the signature. Closest I can come to is something sort of like "Famile Boss".
I know it is a Dutch painting, at least 60 yrs old or more.
I have been to several art sites and reviewed several signatures, but can't find anything just like it.
How else might I try and figure out who painted this picture?

In the 80's or early 90's an artist created prints that clearly depicted a family doing something together in their home. Then in the back ground you can see the ghosts of the family that lived in the home years before. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I tried a bit last night to get a good shot of my Christmas tree. The tree has colored lights.

I didn't have much luck. I really wanted to bring out the brilliance of all the lights together, like my eyes see the tree. I tried to slow down the shutter speed to around 1/30 sec, but the shots started being way overexposed in red. I tried adjusting the white balance, even using presets, no luck, always overexposed one way or another.

I could get the overexposure out, but only at faster shutter speeds where you could barely see the lights.

Any more ideas to get a good shot of the tree/lights and have everything look like I see it?

FYI, the only equipment I have is a Nikon D50, 28-80mm f3.3-5.6 lens, a SB-600 speedlight, and a tripod!

I want to be able to duplicate old b/w photo's. Do you think a scanner would be a better option?

I never understood how girls think I'm good looking because when i see my photos I look pretty bad. When I show them to these girls I date they always say, it's a bad picture of you....BUT EVERY PICTURE IS A BAD PHOTO OF ME!!! Like when I look in the mirror I see what I think I look like and am confident...but whenever I'm in photos...its HORRIBLE but my friends always turn out looking like them...why is that?
