Is it necessary to have good pencil and paper in order to draw really good? this sounds like a dumb question, but what are some tools that you would recommend for a beginner? I want to learn how to draw portraits, so do I need any kind of blending tool? or would I be able to do that with only a pencil? will normal pencil no.2 work?

I am interested in metalsmithing and making art jewelry. I have experimented some on my own, but I would really like to develop some technical skills. what would be some good ways to begin to learn. Can anyone recommend good schools or workshop programs? My dream would be to have a small home studio some day.

which quality would you say their work is most informed by: Identity, form, art-historical reflection or criticism?

Are the artists referencing another artist from history? Who, why?

Thank you again!

I have a sketchbook that I use for drawing on the go, and I've tried using many various types and brands, but I run into the same problem: When I close the book, the image gets quickly smeared into the back of the paper preceding it. It's the worst when I have any kind of hatch marks, of course, but the more detailed I make a sketch, usually the more distorted it will become.

Now I'm not trying to preserve these drawings per se, but it makes it difficult to work with if I try to use the sketches as a reference. I'm not really interested in buying another sketchbook, but does anyone know any way to deal with this? Perhaps I should use a different pencil (I'm using a 2h mechanical) or find some way to remove excess graphite?

I've seen people's profiles that have two pictures, one under the other, and to me it seems that in order to get the second picture you need to add it to the caption box. Can anyone tell me how to do it, and which code or link to use.

I'm taking a photography course and would like a nice camera with good zoom, clarity and fairly simple to use. (On the video they showed a camera that had color cordinated lines, so you knew where to turn the lense) I'd like to keep it under $1,000.

The spray varnish was put over Genesis oils, but for some reason they weren't compatible and the spray stays tacky. How can I gently remove the tacky varnish without harming the painting beneath?

Does anyone know how I can make my own custom shaped metal keychains at home? What equipment is necessary & are there small scale/home versions available? I assume some sort of press, die, & mold is required, but not positive.

I was in Savannah, GA recently and went on a ghost tour. The guide stated that when taking a photograph (flash, nonflash, and daylight) of a "haunted" environment, then glowing spherical glowing orbs often would show up in the photograph. This was not reproducible. The orbs would come and go, different sized and location in each photo - or not at all. The guide said that some times faces would appear in the orbs. Does anyone have any technical explanation about what these orbs may have been?
