I'm taking a photography course and would like a nice camera with good zoom, clarity and fairly simple to use. (On the video they showed a camera that had color cordinated lines, so you knew where to turn the lense) I'd like to keep it under $1,000.

If you want a camera with an SLR appearance, see the Canon S3 iS at www.beachcamea.com (it has a 12X lens). It comes to about $350. The lens is not interchangeable.

Something slightly better would be either the Nikon D50 with the kit lens for about $450 to $500 OR the older, still available, Nikkor D70S with the kit lens for about $400-$450 or so (at www.keh.com)!. These have many of the features you'll need when you're more comfortable with photography.

There's also the Nikon D80 with the AF DX 18-135mm lens which comes out to about $1,170 (no taxes or shipping charge now, on sle) which will give you many, many years of good service.

Check www.beachcamera.com and www.bhphotovideo.com and compare prices. Also, check with www.tigerdirect.com and www.newegg.com for the memory cards you'll want to use.
