Here is a copy of a simple photograph I took of the branches of a bare tree.

http://pics.livejournal.com/unmired/pic/0004dscz/g57

With the aid of Coral Paint I clicked on the ‘photo negative’ button. Then clicked on the ‘page curl’ button. And guess what? Instant, two-click art.

But is it really art? Does having the ability to take a stupid picture of a stupid bare tree, then clicking two commands into a computer software program make it as substantial, as profound, as unique as original paintings?

And who should get the credit for these photographic masterpieces? The person who can ‘doctor’ a photograph or the creator and designer of the software program?

Wouldn’t it be nice if we painters could duplicate our paintings a dozen different times and then select the ‘best’ copy to call art and discard the other copies? Does anyone else here think photography is too easy?

I draw comics and lately I've gotten an idea that involves a small child. I want to give him that ageless quiality kids on cartoons have. This is usually aquired by making their heads gigantic and their bodies considerably smaller. Think "The Fairly Odd Parents" or "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy". However, I've been having trouble making it look proportional. I know it's not suppopsed to be really proportional since their bodies are the same size as their heads, but mine just look... weird. Will it come with practice or am I doing somthing wrong?

i personally would choose the romanticist era or the baroque period. the works in these times are just magnificent, not to mention the masters of art that made their fame during this time. my personal favorites of the romanticist period are delacroix, geracault and constable... each making masterpieces in their own subject

In many paintngs, on the side of the paintings, are the painter's name, date, and a lot of iinformation. I noticed that a lot og these have the phrase "oil on canvas"
What does that mean exactly? Did the artist use oil pastels?

I'm not sure how font copyrights work...

If I hand-draw lettering based on a font I found online (to title an illustrated story for publication), Is this against copyright laws? I mean, I'm not actually typing with the actual font, just referencing it as I hand-draw the lettering.
Is doing this any different from, say, drawing a TV cartoon character for spoofing purposes?

I love photography, and most likely want to major in photography after I graduate. I was just wondering what you think the best places are to take pictures. Usually I just walk around my neigboorhood taking pictures, but I need some new, fresh ideas.

I want to learn to paint, and I was wondering if you could recommend some books and some websites that have specific techniques with brushes strokes, color, and simple paintings to practice making on my own. Websites would be awesome!
I want to take a painting class over the summer, but for now I am just trying to learn on my own.
