Well photography is a lot more than taking pictures at parties. I happen to be a photographer and it isnt as easy as you might think. I will give you a little insight into the career.

I am a freelance photographer. Most of what I do is for newspapers and magizines. But Im pretty much self employed. I take pictures all day, every day. Newspapers and Magizines will hire me to take photos of a subject. This can mean tight deadlines and long hours. In the begining you will not make very much money. One week you might make 4 grand but the next you make $100. Once you get know by papers and editors, you can make good money. The upside, each day is differnt. I wake up every day not knowing what im gonna do and flying by the seat of my pants. If you like to go all over the place and never do the same thing twice, then this is for you. Its a great way to see the world.

Another popular career is a stuido photographer. These are the people who take pictures of families and little kids. They have a contracted salary and make the same amount of money each week but they have to be in a stuido all day.

You might try taking a few photography classes at your local community college or career center (because it will be cheaper) and if you decide you like photography, then maybe you could look into making the switch. But dont jump into anything to quick. If you enjoy what you do, it will make for a much better life. I love what I do, but i never got a degree. I never even went to school for photography. I did this right out of high school. It's paying for my college right now. So dont think that you have to get a degree to make it. All you need to make it a photographer is talent and intuition.

Like most entertainment related jobs, it is difficult to get established well enough to make good money as a photographer.

The competition is fierce, because so many other people also enjoy doing it and want to make money with it. In a way it is like being an actor or on a professional sports team. A few people make a living at it, but most have to keep doing just for fun. A degree doesn't help much, because photographers are hired on results and reputation.

So the end result will depend on you, your commitment, and your talent. If you have a true passion for photography, and are willing to work very hard at learning your craft, and then work very hard at getting noticed and hired, then go for it!

Learn everything you can in and out of school. Get yourself a position as an assistant to a pro photographer. Send your work to local small newspapers. Work on the college newspaper. Post photos on websites. Teach a volunteer photography class. Enter photography contests. Do anything you can to get yourself noticed as a photographer.

I truely believe in following your dreams, and do not mean to discourage you. However, you need to know that professional photography is not an easy path.

I wish you much success!

Photography is good but I think interior designers make more money, they get paid to do weddings, design houses, schools, museums, and many other public buildings.
