I have just started painting with oil using the 3 basic colors (blue, red, yellow). How can I get the gamut of the rest of the colors and what can I do to achieve lighter or darker tones of a color?

And you live in the small studio with only 1 room and a bathroom?
Is that healthy to breath the smell from oil painting?
What is a long term defect of it?

I recently went to an amateur art festival. This one exhibit had huge panoramic canvas pictures of landscape photos (taken with a digital camera). Up close the pictures looked like oil paintings, but they were actually digital photos printed on this canvas as art. The pieces were expensive (around $800). The girl said she took the photos on her digital camera herself, had the pictures professionally developed, and then printed them on the canvas herself - in house. These pictures were huge. There were panoramic style and were about 30" x 48" (2.5 ft x 4 ft). The canvas was attached to a wooden stretcher frame for direct hanging on a wall w/o need for a frame. I was wondering if anyone knew any more on this subject. Is there a special name for this process of digital photography onto canvas art? What kind of printer is used? Where do you get the pictures developed? What else is needed for this process? Starting costs? Where can I go for additional information on this subject?

Also, do you need a primer? I have a white gesso and usually place an acrylic base mixed with matte gel-paste over it. Can I use this? Should I use egg yolk and honey with a liquid base or what is a better resin?

My art teacher says this can be done. I KNOW both are water-based. It seems a better option that oils.

Look at this slideshow and tell me how they made these pictures. Specifically what kind of light they used... I tried it with a flashlight, but I couldn't get this bright white light they have. Please give me any insight you have.

Can anyone tell me what you notice apparent with this photos ie contrast, white balance, iso, etc etc etc Also if you feel there is any apparent filter being used. I know with black and white there are some filters but unfamilar with what they do so if you think there is an apparent filter being used, can you please explain how it may work.

Thanks!

I've got some pictures from my brother that look awesome!! They are dark except for these bands of lights all over the place. I've tried to duplicate it in a dark room with a flashlight but it doesn't look right. Think of those pictures you see of streets at night full of cars, where all the headlights and taillights extend and blur. I can't post them to this question, but I could email examples to you. I know they didn't use any software because they aren't in a place where computers can be used. I do know my brother has a Canon digital camera, but that's about it. I asked him how he did it and he said he's "Magic". Please email me and I'll send you some pictures so you can hopefully tell me how it did it!! Thanks so much.
