several of the figures that he did have been attributed to atlas as the model but that was after the fact his work for the Medici family contains several such lifting men as the atlas but I never found any reference to him calling them atlas.

Michelangelo was pretty much Catholic (though it seems his relationship with the bishops and the pope of the day was a bit on the stormy side), and that sculpture of Atlas holding the earth was not done by him...it is dooubtful that he did any of the Greek or Roman myths, (though what artist wouldn't love to do a project like that, if only for the drill)

yes. moses, david, and a four slaves. one of the slaves was named atlas. I believe this was a title others gave to it because the slave looked to be carrying something very heavy.
