There is a book that Iis very inspirational to anyone who is creative. It is called "Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity "

Here is a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/Artists-Way-Spiritual-Higher-Creativity/dp/1585421464/sr=8-1/qid=1165721194/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-1043218-3852164?ie=UTF8&s=books

I would highly recommend it. Everyone I know who has read it has liked it.

Cover your basics-- charcoal (a pack of light vine and a pack of dark compressed), pencils (mechanical or lead-holding-- I much prefer the latter, as they last longer and offer more freedom over all, but the combined cost of pencil +lead is about 10 bucks, so it might be out of your price range) or a hard or spiral bound, non-perforated sketchbook. I steer towards hardbounds these days, because they stand up better to daily abuse and don't have a tendency to deform, fall apart, or smudge your drawings just because you've had them jammed in a backpack all day. You can also throw some custom decorations on the cover of it just to let her know you cared.

I know this isn't really exciting, but an artist can never have too many sketchpads! The small spiral-bound ones are nice to carry around, but I like the big ones too and I never buy them for myself. You could get 2-3 different sized sketchpads, wrap them in a big bow, and still stay within your price range.

If you aren't familiar with art supplies, you might get her a gift certificate for the local art store. That way you won't get something she might not need or can't use. Books on artists are always good, but may be more exspensive than that.

They sell fancy sketch books that look like regular books I also draw and those are fun. They can be found at craft stores. Good luck!

Artistic people usually need money. Try cash, or save the receipt in case she doesnt like what you get her.. PS if you are romantic towards the girl, a practical gift is not reccomended.. try jewelry.. jk
