What is the difference between good and evil?
More specifically, suppose we have the following categories a person or action can fall under:

Ruthless Good--Justice with no mercy
Ruthless Evil--Injustice with no mercy
Compassionate Good--justice with mercy
Compassionate Evil--injustice with mercy

Can you provide examples of each? I have a few, listed below and am wondering what others think.

Ruthless Good--"eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth mentality", death penalty without regard for the convicted person's circumstances.

Ruthless Evil--serial killer/rapist, bomber of public places

Compassionate Good: rewards good behavior and punishes bad behavior while taking into consideration the circumstances for the behavior.

Compassionate Evil: rewards bad behavior such as providing welfare support to folks that do not exercise sound judgment, sparing the rod and spoiling the child.

I think most of us are compassionate good/evil. And a few are ruthless good/evil. What do you think?

There is something inherently wrong with a person's psyche if they have to believe in a god in order to be at peace with their neighbor or in order to be a person of good character.

Would you agree that out of all the artistic and physical competitions that humans take part in, the 50 (or 100) metres sprint is the one where it is likely that the best man or woman on the day takes the first prize.

Dr. D. Chopra is asking a similar question and I was reading some answers and could not find it. Would you share your thoughts on what a true leader is?

Thank you!

if u don't believe god,,,then lets say
god is a thought,,an idea,,
a thought or an idea is an abstract,,
mathematics is also an abstract,,
so u don't believe in mathematics,,

if u believe in mathematics, u believe in god,
*******************************************************
mathematics is an abstract,
" 1+ 1 = 2 " holds and is the truth
god is an abstract,
" creation and evolution " holds and is the truth

mathematics exists,,
god exists,,
*******************************************
without mathematics, there wouldn't have been any physics,,
(as mathematics is the language of physics)
no physics -> no universe -> nothing exists

similarly, without god -> no universe -> nothing exists
********************************************

i believe in mathematics, i believe in god
i love mathematics, i love god,

We've heard a lot about fear and what it can do, and how it's been related to courage. Plato said: "Courage is knowing what not to fear". From this, we can say that courage is knowledge, but what is it that we should not fear? What kind of knowledge brings courage?

Thanks for your comments!

Materialism reigns supreme own all that you can before you die, physical evidence is the only real evidence, the soul is only in the brain and dies with you, live for today because tomorrow never comes, there is no life after death when you die thats it, the only true knowledge is emperical.
What about evolution of the mind or how about yeah there is too an afterlife the world doesn't stop just because you die, life goes on why should we screw the next generations over.
What about wealth of character and not just money?
Why do I have to have believe everything I am told is true because you can prove it or because it is logical?
What about an ethical revolution, life sucks get over it, why should I, don't I have a right to be upset about the reasons life sucks?
Are we in a second drak age, the dark age of the materialism?
If so how do you think we can reach a new age of enlightenment?

people constantly complain, yet we discriminate. we all do. whether its against humans, insects, or animals. eating animals is a form of discrimination called speciesism. point in take, in not seeing people for who they are, what they are, and seeing them for their flaws, issues, and insecurities, we are putting ourselves out there for failure, wars, murder, rapes, genoicide, etc. throughout history it has been this way. you go out there, and you separate yourself from others, and in doing so, you are harming more than helping. you look at a person, notice their differences and treat them differently. in doing so, you hurt all living organisms. we all have a connection to nature, if you believe it or not!!! why don't people see, in separating yourself from nature, you separate yourself for life and your own existence???
