I view a mathematician as perhaps someone who is boring and maybe even strange or geeky...maybe obnoxious too. but then again I realize that I am the farthest thing from a mathematician so am not entitled to give such a uninformed judgemental opinion. p.s. I wish that a mathematician would explain to me the 6 numbers that are the make up of the existence of life.

I view them as a little detached from the rest. Mathematicians have nurtured a talent for something that many people have difficulty learning. Their way of thinking is often different from less mathematically inclined people. I have a hard time communicating with them.

Some evidence shows that as a group, mathematicians have the longest life spans. I think it is because of the affect that such black-and-white things as numbers can have upon logic . Logic drives the mind. Numbers are infinite. The mind seeks infiniteness through consciousness.

i don't view mathemeticians from any particular angle. tee hee
i have a strong suspicion i am not understanding the nature of your questions, but i'll give you my opinions anyway.
i don't believe you can generalize about any group of people based on their career choice or a particular interest in anything.
any job can be as presitigious as relativity will allow.
no room for error jobs are good for some people, not all people.
mathematics are so uprite and reliable. . they're the foundation for many things.
btw- one of my closest friends is both a mathmetician and a devout catholic for what it's worth.

Am of the opinion that Brouwer's notion of intuitionalism finds fuller expression in Husserl's phenomenological reduction and "Pure Ego."
As such, Platonic and Plotinian under-standing of what Goedel termed the realm of Ideas, Mind, and what Erdos termed "the Book," is modeling Hilbertian formalism in a truer and more profound sense, than that which the reductionist Hilbert championed.
From the Brouwerian "move of time" to soulfield "Pure Ego" realization of Plotinus' One Mind Soul-individuation is a distinct step of awareness. At the Plotinian and Husserlian level, mathematics is both the pre-verbal intuitionism of Brouwer, and the God-reflecting Oneness of Plotinus and Husserl, for whom the challenge is as Goedel's "always pointing to Mind" philosophy: how to biject Mind's Ideas, even per quantum non-effort, to Mater, Matter. In quantum terms, the multivariate waveform is reduced to a Form-u-Law, and the bridge (or pons asinorum, vis a vis the unrealized) is Spirit unto Mater.
As with doing any "science," "science" is not typically "sciens." As Kant noted, most scientists were simply emotionally uninterested, uninvolved, with soul or sensibility beyond their 5-sense physis body temple reductionism and control.
Hence, the rare and rather neglected science of e.g. Dr. William A. Tiller, http://www.tiller.org http://www.quantumbrain.org http://www.tcm.phy.cam.ac.uk/~bdj10 http://www.integralscience.org http://www.noetic.org http://www.divinecosmos.com
So, in answer to your question, God, Mind, has Oneness-communion re impartation of Consciousness. To the extent and degree that one "lets this Mind abide, which was also in Christ Jesus," one speaks the Living Word, the cup of Light as Presence of Spirit-Mater, Alpha-to-Omega ("atom").
Hence, insofar as one is One Mind Soul-realized and -individuating, in the Mind Idea arena termed mathematics, one is speaking Living Word, much as Saint John spoke "God Is Love." Mind and Love are synonymous, and quite equal in "value." Thus, the "language of Love" which a Paulo Veronese and a Nicholas Roerich "speak" in painting is as equally meritorious and important as any Godly command of calculus.
"Clmb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet
"Creation: Artistic and Spiritual," O. M. Aivanhov
"Kundalini West" and "Watch Your Dreams," Ann Ree Colton.
It is well to note that a majority does not necessarily indicate validity nor causality. In the case of most "scientists" not being "spiritual" or "religious," that is likely a reflection of their psychologistic self-selection toward control, manipulation, reduction, and exclusion of the personal--"nerdy," in common language, "ignorant like Saint Martha in the kitchen," in Biblical terminology.
cheers,
j.

I'm jealous.
i so long to 'get' it.but i just don't.
i passed my 11+ went to a grammar school.got 'o'levels, a'levels but got a u in my maths. I've tried 3 times since to get it and failed miserably every time.mathematicians are unbelievable,i Saw a doc on channel four about young mathematicians entering into a maths equivalent of a 'spelling bee' .i was astounded.i have always comforted myself that maths people were geeks. these kids weren't they had me howling with laughter, even the ones with aspergers who are supposed to be considered 'disabled' had me roaring with laughter and aching with sadness at their societal blindness.
as i said I'm jealous and in awe..............
