Here is a brain-bender for everyone.

Is happiness something that is created, or is it something that can only be found?

Example: two people fall in love. They are happy. Is their happiness something that they both created together, or is it something that they both found in each other?
another example: the happiness derived from your favorite activity; something you create by that activity, or is it found in the process itself?

myself, I think that when things are "created," they seem impure, imperfect. Unnatural. But things found are pure, lasting, rare. Such is my view on happiness.

What does everyone else here believe? Is happiness someting that is created, or is it something that must be found?

most see atheists as being very nihilistic and a depressing way of living life. however i do not see it that way.

so why is life as an atheist not sad or depressing or meaningless to you?

He sends cowboys in to do repairs to the point I would rather live with the faults. The only thing that has stopped him from letting himself in is because something happened when we first moved in and I reminded him of the law.
The kitchen is falling to bits and he offered the guy downstairs, whom is a friend of the family and moved in after we sort of did a good word for him, a new fitted kitchen. The guy really doesn't want or need a new kitchen and the inconvenience it will cause. We don't particularly but definitely our flat is in more need of one compared to the one downstairs. But he is adamant and downstairs is getting a new kitchen.
I won't mention the carpets other than they are beyond cleaning. We have put vinyl in the kitchen and bathroom, they were carpet too when we moved in.

This statement, I think Therefore I Am, seems solid at first glance, but when you really think about it, it doesn't actually hold any sway! Let me explain, and please refute or comment.

"I" - Here is part of the problem right away! We assume there is an "I" to begin with, but that is what the statement is proving with its conclusion! It is like saying "The rock sits, therefore it is a rock". The statement "I am" at the end is claiming to be, but the act of existing is already established in the very first statement, "I".
Which brings me to the next problem, the concept of "I". The concept that we each hold of ourselves is flawed and incomplete because it is only one perspective on ourselves; i.e. our own. If it were a perfect concept of I, it would include the objective (3rd party) view of ourselves coupled with the internal one. Therefore, when someone makes the statement "I think, therefore I am", "I" is a limited concept, lacking of the whole picture. Thoughts and comments?

Capital punishment is still prevalent in big democracies like the US and Japan and also in ardent Buddhist countries like Thailand and Vietnam. Why is it so hard to say NO to capital punishment?

I hv a frnd who didnt care for me as much as I cared for her. She knows I love talking to her but she always showed me like she is busy and its hard for her to talk to me but still she used to talk and it made me feel like a burden on her.
I was always there in her time of need but I rarely found her when I needed her.
I was hurt by all this so 1 day I told her that its not necessary to talk daily and she agreed after that I stopped texting her suddenly.
Till now she didnt ask me, y? She knows something is wrong but she didnt ask me what? Today she told me that I can text her at anytime and its not a prob for her to talk to me.
There was a time when she used to find difficult talking to me and nw she asked me to msg her whenevr I want to.
What do u think is she bothered by my avoiding attitude? Does she started missing me? Idont want to lose her. I feel bad ignoring her. Do u think she got it that i have some prob by her. How can I hint her that I am hurt by her. plz plz help.

Look at title. What is it exactly that makes us human? That makes us living? Are machines with artificial intelligence considered living like us? Explain your answer.

Also, anyone have good suggestions for philosophers that can answer this question?

okay, so i have a paper to do for my philosophy class and I actually wasnt able to turn in the original paper due to me leaving the country early for spring break. Anyway so im allowed to re-do my paper but he change the topic to this:

How would Plato assess the morality of leaving school early for spring break?
How would Aristotle?
Which view is superior, and why?

can anyone help me to get an idea on where to start so i can expand on it? thanks so much!

ok... so i have wondered this for a long time. Have u ever thought about KILLING someone? Like if someone pissed u off... not just like, "man! i wish i could kill him/her!" i mean like... thinking it through. You picture in your mind killing the person and then how it would be afterwords. u picture everything... as if u were really going to kill him or her.. but not really. Is this NORMAL???

example: u picture urself stabbing someone mulitple times, them dying, and then afterwords how u would hide and stuff.

IS THIS NORMAL???
