As far as i know, functionalism is a sociologisy theory.

Functionalism basically says that there are thing called social institutions in society. theses are things like the family, the education system, law, mass media, church. Basically anything which influences you in life.

According to functionalists, each social institution has a specific function in society, involved with socialising us. Socialisation is the process whereby we learn the rules, morals, norms and values of our socity. Basically this means that we learn how to behave in public.

Functionalist theories also throw in their opinion in topics such as social class, class structure and inequality in society.
