Whenever someone is unselfish they are always generous because basically they are willing to give to others whatever is needed, whether that's time, money or prayer.

But when someone simply does a generous thing it doesn't make them unselfish (except maybe for that moment when they decided to give it away), it just means they've done a good thing.

It's far greater spiritually to be totally unselfish. Then it would affect everything you do.

the difference may be that being generous is often about giving what you can afford to give (and im not talking just about material things), being nobly unselfish means that you give to others what you cant really afford to give away

To me, being generous is sharing what you have. Being noble unselfish is making a sacrifice, and doing without for yourself so that you can help others in need.

Jesus' parable of the rich man and the poor woman in the temple is a classic example of each. The rich man was unselfishly generous by giving more than was required of him. However, the poor woman was nobly generous because she gave all she had.

Wisdom, I believe. Sometimes generous people tend to be overly kind. Give beyond their means. Or give to build up their image or ego. In my opinion an unselfish person gives when there is a need, regardless of his own.

Generous is sharing whether or not you can afford to.
Nobly unselfish is giving even when you can't afford to, and are making a sacrifice to do so.

generous - you share your wealth and such with others, nobly unselfish - you actually give up something you love and feel good about it!
