While a level of mistrust and suspicion of others is healthy in light doses, I do not agree with disguising your intentions and exploiting other people. While it may be easier than truthful reasons, if the other person were to find out that they were exploited, it would lower their opinion of you and close off one of your future options, unless of course your intention is to use that person only once.
Truthful answers (in situations that are not overly dangerous) allow a stronger relationship between people to be built, allowing more trust and therefore making it easier to ask more favors later on.
In my opinion Honesty is not always the best policy, however when possible it does not hurt to answer honestly. It best to forge good relationships that although not needed presently, can be called upon when in need later. But then, my Machiavellian opinion is motivated as something for survival, and not gain.

Machiavellian ideas are how to get power and keep it, but without regarding morals or ethics. To an extent everyone does this, but if it was beneficial for you to kill a man, would you?
You wouldn't steal, or cheat, it is only smaller, insignificant things that you would do. Personal morality exists in mine and most people's worlds - but for the purposes of his book, Machiavelli tried to ignore it.

3 key issues that might actually assist you... a million. cutting-side era occasion - the Hessians - from Hesse, Germany, mercenaries for Britain. super combatants, yet decimated by ability of colonial troops. 2. national troops, your thought is sweet. yet another one is the primitively armed Zulus destroying British troops who have been overconfident. yet another occasion is in 4 Feathers (starring Heath Ledger) and Khartoum (starring...) the two super video clips - illustrating the British losses on the hands of the Mahdi / Urabi Pasha in Egypt and Sudan. The dervishes reached a nationalistic/non secular fervor that decimated tremendously experienced British troops. 3. Frederick the super became/is known because of the fact the final militia strategist in history by ability of Napoleon and a marvelous type of others. He wrote articles on a number of Machiavellian concepts which you extremely prefer to study.

My ways are not your ways.
The idea that normal morality does not apply to leaders is subversive and dangerous.
The reason that the good die young is that when they don't, they are not remembered as the good.
