I hope to die with the knowledge that I either was of use healing this world or that at least I did my best not to make it any worse. I would like to attempt to at improving the world as a Buddhist Nun in AIDS stricken countries in Africa and Asia to care for those dying and of course attain Nirvana. I also see the folly of many idealists and would almost rather be isolated as a permaculturist hermit (second most sustainable lifestyle after hunting and gathering). Which of these would you recommend the life of influence and humanitarian idealism or escapism? Should I try to combine them by teaching/learning indigenous lifestyles to/from people in third world countries thus making an even greater impact for good? Also, do you think I will regret not having a family? Could denial of what I am naturally compelled to do inhibit and distort my pursuits making a normal life the most moral option?

An ethical question:

As a society, we often punish crimes committed with the same amount of malice differently depending on the severity of the consequences. For example, attempted-murder convicts are usually given lighter sentences than actual murderers, even if this is because they are just bad at aiming a pistol.

One of the first mistakes I made when I was 16 and a new driver was running a stop sign that I just didn't see. There were no cars coming, though, so thankfully there was no accident. Had a cop seen me, the most I would have received was a ticket.

Yet I read in the paper about a man who made the same mistake. He was completely sober and alert, but just missed the stop sign. A minivan slammed into his car, and two of its passengers were killed. He was facing jail time for vehicular manslaughter.

We both made the same mistake and are similarly culpable. Why are the punishments not the same? Why should fortune and chance to factor in our criminal punishments?

Seriously, have any of you ever been 'at the top', so to speak?

Define 'at the top' as you understand it to mean. And if any of you have been 'at the top' is it all that lonely?

Just wondering.

even if someones wronged you, im sure at least some of these people cant sleep at nite cuz of it. would it kill you to call that person and tell them you want to work it out- explain everyone makes mistakes and you dont want this mistake, no matter how damaging it was, to totally ruin that relationship- life is too short and everyone does make mistakes. no ones perfect. what do you think.. will you at least try?

Normal isn't really defined, it's just based on majority. So everyone is weird or different. But what's your perception of normal and how do you, as an individual, decide what's weird/different and what's normal to you?

so many people blame God for what's happening...some atheists even assert that God doesn't exist because they say that God isn't even doing anything to save those who ask for His help...but really, is He to blame for what's going on?
