Theer is only ONE angel in scriptures called an archangel: this is MICHAEL, who is the prince of the heavenly host. Ezekiel 28 (verses 12 to 19) address a prophecy to "the King of Tyre", having just dealt with the human ruler as "the Prince of Tyre". (Josephus identifies him as Ithobal). It describes the supernatural "king of Tyre" as having been in Eden and having been "the covering cherub", who, full of wickedness ("iniquities") brought about his expulsion from heaven because of corruption, and as a warning to leaders of mankind. In Milton's epic poem "Paradise Lost", the scene opens with Lucifer rising to his feet after his long fall, badly singed and complaining that he was not really kicked out -- he himself had wanted to leave heaven at top speed.
One of the ideas of the various supernatural beings subject to God has the cherubim as being a special class of angels, and a "covering cherub" having the special responsibility of guarding the enthroned presnce of God on the "mercy-seat". Diagrams of the ark of the covenant show the mercy-seat (the lid of the box) flanked on both sides by winged guards: these would be representaing "covering cherubim".
Later Jewish legends (not biblical) describe several different named cherubim and seraphim (the two "highest orders" of angels, among whom are Gabriel, Michael, Raphael, Panuel, and so on -- but in scriptures only Gabriel and Michael are identified, and only Michael is called "archangel".

I liked this simple answer "he began to think politically...he wanted to be superior.... " except it might be revised to say he thought he was superior... and was therefore cast down - and most generously was granted his own domain. Should the likes of Lucifer exist, that being rules very little overall. Creates nothing. Deals within a set of boundaries that allow no innovation. despised by most. what a horrible fate.

He wanted to be like God instead of serve God.
He was rebellious and arrogant.
Only Love can be in Heaven with God.
Likewise we must let go of everything that is not love before we can enter heaven.

I Thank God that Catholics have purgatory to get purified before getting into heaven.

God Bless You, ;-)
