Appearances deceptive? Oh my, yes. And thank God for that too. Some of the most outwardly reserved (if this is the same as "homely") women I know are, well, animals under some circumstances. In the good way, I mean.
And even if a homely girl is homely, so what? Am I alone in being a male who sometimes actually prefers nothing more than a cup of hot chocolate and biscuits, and talking about stuff and nothing, to doing the other thing just for the sake of it?
Homely girls are great - Try one and you'll be addicted for life...

Question 1: There is no such thing as getting the probability (i.e., a statistical number of 1 or lower) to determine if someone is "homely," as you say, unless you have determined some set of operational definitions for the term. Then on top of that, you would be determining something not based on any great fact but on subjective values.
Question 2: Yes, appearances can be "deceptive." Ever heard of an ambiguous figure? What about a figure in which subject and background can be interchanged? People do not just see with their eyes. They interpret reality based on subjective values, which can decieve you about "reality" (i.e., the more objective world outside your perception of it).

I am extremely homely to the point of being a hermit , and to disintegrate your presupposition i do not "look it" in the slightest sense.
and why do you ask?
looking for a subservient wife are you?
You should know that in the subtler game of power struggles, which woman has been forced into tip toeing with under massive social oppression, we do have great advantage over you, for you shamelessly publicise your whims and fancies that has it's roots in unhealthy discrimations.
So , the moral of the story....is those who are hiding under a guise of decency, they ain't the real deal.
But i say , if you are a chauvinist, you shall find that out when it's too late and that then it suits you,.............

we can read people's body languages(sometimes we didn't know we could but we do!). that's why we sometimes have a good or bad feeling or intuation about a person. there is no exact 'probability' that this girl is homely or not until we know them. some people could control their body language so they'll seems good. so the best way to know if that person is good or not is simply by getting to know her...

I'm the homely type..I'd prefer to stay at home than socializing outside... you can tell if she doesn't really talk much and whenever someone ask her out, she would start giving excuses and most of them are very quiet....I'm one of them so that should explain it i think..

Yes, like the cover of a book or a theatrical mask, we all hide behind our appearances.

You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, and the same thing goes for people...the outter shell means nothing.
