okay..since people don't that the words "black people" can be used in a sentence without being tied to racism..i mean seriously, a huge majority of black people don't smile in pictures, i was curious why..there has to be a reason for it

ps - if i say african american, it automatically presumes that every black person is from africa, wouldn't that hurt the jamaicans feelings ? or the caribbeans? haitians?

i should have been more specific..i mean black men, black females smile all the time, and its nice, but why don't black men smile ..c'mon, get happy :D

im not white, how dare you presume that you racist!..see how the door swings both ways? anywhoo, im hispanic and arab..so yea, and im around ALOT of black people...so please..dont give me that, its just a simple question! why is everyone calling me a racist, even rappers don't smile on their album covers..smile! you're making millions for spouting off crappy lyrics!

holy crap! i knew someone would tie this topic into slavery...i highly doubt that ancestors being bought and sold has anything to do with people smiling in a damn picture..thanks though :)

My wife is not black and she never smiles in a picture. Maybe you should investigate a little more. I have seen many black people smiling in pictures. I'll tell you who doesn't smile in pictures much and that is rock musicians, Marilyn Manson, and alot of goths. There's a question man!

I have a lot of black friends who smile in pictures...I have a lot of white friends who don't smile in pictures...maybe it's to each their own?

Well, if you are looking at candids taken in the ghetto, I doubt seriously they will be smiling or older photos of blacks in the 40's - 60's, again they are working so hard, they don't smile. I am a photographer and teach photograhy at a primarily black school and I am white. My students smile everytime they see a camera. They ham it up, so I don't think you are around enough black people. Also, they don't care whether you say african american or black. just like you don't care to be called white or european american. (if that's what you are).

Ok seriously since I happen to be Black I'll try some logic on this one, and no racism . Are Black people the only people you have seen pictures of not smiling? I really never noticed this but it could be that through all the bs they go through everyday maybe the person taking the picture caught all these people on the wrong day. Maybe they couldn't afford the dentist bills, and did'nt want to embarass themselves by smiling. I usually smile when I take pictures but sometimes I don't. All in all this is a very interesting question, and I seriously am going to look into this.

hm? wow u need 2 see my year book- I smile with my mouth closed :) my teeth are nice and str8 + quite white - it's b/c i think I look weird smiling with my teeth- like my face looks too tight or something :\- every1 in my family smiles in pictures ...even my cousin..who thinks he's a gangsta he is such a loser omg..I'm so ashamed of him...kinda going off topic...k so ya
The colour of a persons skin doesn't stop them from smiling :\ it's their personality..and their mood at the time the picture was being taken

Im black and I smile in all of my photos. Unless Im caught off gaurd. What black person photos are you looking at. It doesnt matter your race some folks just dont smile for pictures.

To answer your question, I don't know. Sorry. I suspect that blacks will smile at blacks more than they would at other groups. Try this for yourself, ask some people that share your own specific background, whether they would be more likely to smile at someone from their own racial/ ethnic/ nationality group than at others.
