Did the CSA have the right to succede from the Union?

I realize that this question may not warrant a simple answer... But I am curious as to your opinions on the matter. In 1860, was the United States a voluntary confederation, or a perpetual federal union?

I am especially interested in Texas' right to succede, since it was without a doubt an independant nation before surrendering its sovereignty by joining the Union, and not just a territory that was 'statified'.

Need help with Western Civilization assignment, please!?

I am having a lot of trouble with this class, and just need some light shed on this question. Here it is: The Hebrew Civilization was different from other civilizations for all of the following reasons *except*: (1) They were nomadic, (2) They did not like cities, (3) They refused to adopt monarchy or (4) They worshipped a single deity.

What evidence could I use to convince a jury not to ship Napoleon Bornaparte to St. Helena.(scenerio)?
