Fellow history majors, perhaps you can help me with this (or anyone else who likes history for that matter).

We all know the story of Vlad the Impaler, the "Son of the Dragon" who mercilessly tortured and killed his enemies as well as innocent men, women, and children.

So why do certain people in Romania see him as some sort of folk hero? My guess was that he dealt with the Turks and other possible invaders.

But how does defending one's country justify the murders of thousands of people in such a cruel fashion?

It seems unheard of that a tribal country could have conquered so many nations. What did they do that enabled them to be so fearsome?

I thought it was just the hollywood directors, but after reading some of the views on answers I'm beginning to wonder. While they unboubtedly helped bring it to a swifter close, saving many lives, last time I checked it was Russia that actually caused the most grief and took Berlin, and given how crap the Nazis were at putting a decent economy together it's doubtful they'd have held it together for long anyway. Maybe I just need to read less and watch moe Speilberg...

I've read a lot about him and I can't come up with why he is important. I've already written a lot on why he is , but not enough. And I have "fluffed" it up too. I still need like 3 paragraphs on why he was important.

I was in Primary School in the late 1970s, when news was very rife that kind of a dozen green figures similar to mankind, with super technology connected with wires in their ears and unique fatigue, had landed on planet earth, actually in the United States of America.
Homosapiens-our own kind scientists and security personnel approached them to know who or what they actually were, but the mysterious strange scientists vanished in thin air or without trace.
That's what we were told now forty years ago.
Please, confirm to me via my email, if that actually took place.
Or do we have such beings any where anyway?
