According to legend, the War lasted ten years, but specific dates are impossible to arrive at, as there are no contemporaneous written accounts.

Historians still debate whether the Trojan Wars occurred at all, but I think the consensus is that they did. But the "when" and "why" are still debated.

Ten years according to the "Iliad" by Homer. That is legend, but the city of Troy has been found. The supposed length of the war is not portrayed very well in the 2004 movie "Troy", but it's difficult to fit ten years into a two hour film. A reasonable guess at dates would be 1200 BC to 1190 BC.
