I have a friend and her dream is she wants to write novels and the other day she was telling me about a piece of her writing (a book) and I thought it would be a good teen drama. The only thing is that she doesn't kno who or where she can send it to when it is complete. Can I please get some suggestions for her?

I'm making a fanfiction of the book Twilight, and I just started. I would appreciate advice and tips.

“Really, Charlie,” I struggled to hide my impatience, “OK, Dad. I honestly think I can handle picking up a few things at a small town grocery store.”

This was getting annoying; only would Charlie, the chief officer in this undersized water Hell hole, worry about his daughter in a grocery store that somehow managed to profit enough money out of the tiny population to stay open.

“Dad, its Forks, for God’s sakes. I walked… Yes… No… Okay, Char- I mean Dad. I’ll be home by six.” I snapped the phone shut, cutting off his new string of lectures.

My watch struck 4:23.

So I have to admit, I was being a little too harsh on Charlie. It was only my first (full) day in Forks and he was trying so hard to get me settled in and comfortable. As if that wasn’t enough stress -

I recently got a contract from Tate publishing, and they want 4,000 dollars. I think its way too much, and I intend on leaving Tate and going somewhere else. What are the benefits of traditional publishing over self publishing? Would you advise me to self-publish or use a traditional publisher? If so, why?

I'm submitting a piece of work to a well known publishing house. They are only accepting submissions via email. The work is around 5000 words. Do I need to copyright this first before I send it? I just found out about this opportunity a couple day ago and I have something done. Should I wait and hope they don't find what they are looking for in the meantime? Like I said, it is a very well-know publishing house.

Why do so many people think there's nothing wrong with downloading electronic versions of brand new books for from from the 'net, when they know it would be wrong to walk into a bookstore and steal the same book?

Is it because there's no "material"--no paper or cover or ink, nothing to take up space on their bookshelves? Or is it a sense that everything online should be free? Or some distorted sense of entitlement ("If I want it, it must be provided to me at no cost")?

I want to be a writer/author. Yes, I do realize that a course dedicated to extensive writing might make more sense, but there's a lot of rudimentary pieces that can be picked up from in depth reading and analysis, as well. So in your opinion which do you think is the wisest choice, studying creative writing or literature?
Any other comments, or personal accounts of dealing with this are welcome.
