My OPINION: Dean Koontz is the best, I have read almost everything he;s published, but he insists on having happy endings, so he may write another 75 pages to show you that. Crichton is good, but he gets so technical (like Timeline) that the books sometimes get boring, and Stephen King can't even be taken seriously. He's so mainstream that he just writes movie scripts and makes more money that way. And how much talent does it take to say the "F" word 4,000 times?

Dean Koontz. I can't put one of his books down once i start. There are always so many twists and turns that you get involved into the storyline. I also love his characters. There is always some sort of redemption in the end with one or more of the characters. He describes everything so that you become a part of the story and truly invested in the characters. He is the BEST AUTHOR hands down. Stephen is a close second, he just takes too long to get to the point.

Dean Koontz is very talented and is always readble, but he tends to be overly sentimental and saccharine. Stephen King writes better dialog and has a better sense of humor. His plots and story lines are at least equal to Koontz.

Michael Crichton is good with the technology gone mad thing, but is far less versatile than Koontz & King.

I'm a big fan of Koontz and King. I've read a few of Crichton's books, but I only did Timeline and Congo more than once.

Crichton, hands down. Fact and science based sci-fi, nothing like it. I can never put one of his books down. King is good, but Koontz is so predictable, and the everyone has to live at the end is like watching a hockey game when I already know the final score!

Dean Koontz has interesting character-driven plots, but a lot of his characers and plots start sounding VERY similar after a while.

Stephen King is, of the three, the best when it comes to character development, and characters are the key to a successful story. If the character doesn't seem real, or you don't care about the character, who CARES about the plot? So, I'd have to vote for King.

If you like Dean Koontz and Stephen King, try Bentley Little, he will scare the pants off you. His books scare me so I can't sleep.

Stephen King....the master of macabre
Dean Koontz....Leaves you with hope
Michael Crichton...Literary Nostradamus

I'd have to say SK...even though he seems to have sold out, I eagerly anticipate his next book...each and every time. Sometimes I'm disappointed...most times not.
