I'm starting to write a book and its a fantasy book not like lord of the rings, but it has elves dwarves nut thats with a lot of fantasy books. I created a race like hobbits, not hobbits, but like them. for example they're small and have curly hair. Do you think people will say i steal ideas? Also lets say i choose to have 4 of this hobbit like race like lotr or choose to have a demon appear if i go into mines. or have a town dedicated to horses. Do you think people will think im stealing ideas or copying lotr?

A Democrat and Republican falling in love?

Now be honest here, what do you think of a romance/comedy novel of people of two different political parties actually dating? lol

The novel would be comical. Just think about it, the couple walk to work hand in hand, give each other a big passionate kiss and wish each other a good day before walking off in opposite directions of Congress, all while their fellow party members watch in "umm..okay" expressions. lol

What do you think? Would you read such a story? would a politically themed Romeo and Juliet be entertaining to you?

Just a note: No I don't actually plan to write such a story, it's just a funny idea that came to my head today lol. thought I'd hear what you had to say.

I have to write a poem to go with twas the night before christmas that summarises A Christmas Carol. All I have so far is:

Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house,
creatures were stirring, just like cat & mouse.
Scrooge sitting in his chair
Soon the ghost of Jacob Marley would be there.

I need the next three stanza's

someone told me once, you can tell a lot about someone's character ( at least make some inductive reasoning about it ) by knowing which book they liked best in high school and which they hated most.

for me 1984 was my favorite, on golden pond was my least favorite. how about you all? does it describe you in any way?

I have a book of fiction and suddenly realized that the name Godzilla could be copyright/trademarked preventing me using it without permission even though I am using it as a name for an animal. It is even in the dictionary with a description of the characteristics, not the movie character. Any lawyers out there to help me with this please?!
Many Thanks!
Madeleine

It is so obvious to me with the outright multiple choice questions, or someone begging others to analyze a poem for them. Do people not use their own minds anymore or are these unfortunates just lazy? This has really been bothering me and any comments would be welcome. Thanks

I work as a flight attendent, and enjoy reading while I have a little down time on the plane. However, I don't like most "light" books and I can't have anything that will upset me too much or make me cry if I need to go help people.

Typically I like things like Poisonwood Bible, Kite Runner, Book Theif, One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Red Tent, etc.

Any suggestions?

The books I read are normally large - I commute and read - ALWAYS.

Also, for you military readers out there - what types of books do you read to "clear the strategic mind"? My mind clearing books are normally about actors.

For a class next quarter I'm going to design an internet course that deals with the memoir as literature. I have not decided on what books I'll use, though some I'm considering are:

Angela's Ashes
The Kite Runner
Running with Scissors
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
Reading Lolita in Tehran

What do you think of those?

Also, have you read any memoirs that you think would be interesting to study in a college level course?

After reading some reviews, I read "Traveler" and was quite disappointed at the poor quality of the research that went into it, the unawareness of modern technology (he has his bad guys using 50 year old technology for security) and the obvious reliance on the poor information in writers resource books. What was your impression? He/she/it writes pretty well, but I sort of object to the use of an American Indian sounding pen name for somebody who obviously isn't.

Is their any book you could recommend for a 16 y old ?
I like the dramatic kind (sort of: a girl abused by her father, or a someone that has a sad life and ends up dealing with drugs or a lonely bullied person)
