Adults. Can you imagine children understanding the deeper theme in that book?

It was definitely written for adults. an allegory. Just because it has talking animals doesn't mean it's a children's book. Some schools have kids read it when they're much too young to understand the deeper themes.

What is it about Brit authors and this grim, bleak, depressing view of the world, the future? Big Brother is watching. His Dark Materials tiology, all those orphan children, Oliver Twist and all Dickens, etc.

Animal Farm was about as good as The Godfather. Even though it's for a younger age group, I'd pick Charlotte's Web.

Adults and Teens. Way above childeren under 15 or 16 unless they are really into politics.
I don't remember the book that well, I read it about 20 years ago in high school. It was a book we were made to read in one of my reading and writing classes. It's is a good story but quite political.

It was written on two levels, like some modern family films that are enjoyable for kids but where the cartoon characters say things with double meanings that can be appreciated by the adults.
The book is an illustration of the foolishness of Communism, which Orwell had learned to loathe. See his 'Homage to Catalonia."

I think it's for both!! Entertaining for high school age kids and enough political rhetoric for adults. kind of like the Simpson's, or South Park.

By the way... High School is still considered childhood :)

it is a book that is not for children. we read it in high school government class.
