HELP!!!
What can be gained from this book (the prince) in today's world? What would a state be like under a Machiavellian ruler today?

If you could only read 5 books for the rest of your live, which would you choose? Religious texts don't count, we'll assume you are allowed those, and you won't need any survival guides or anything. Just the 5, for fun, books you can read over and over again. Mine are:
1. Pride and Prejudice
2. Chronicles of Narnia (probably shouldn't count, but I have a huge book that includes all the novels :))
3. Last of the Breed by Louis L'amour
4. Count of Monte Cristo
5. The Illiad (or the Oddesey)

I just realized I like too many series...

When you get a good book, where do you love to read it? In the house, coffeshops, parks...ANYWHERE! Please share, I hate reading in my bed, as it's usually uncomfortable because you have to hold the book up and my arms get tired...

I just read "Geralds Way" and it was an absolutely appalling book. I think he was trying something new there but seriously botched it up.

Then I read "Dreamcatcher" and that was a bit better but still quite poor.

Then I tried "Insomnia" and after 100 pages of sheer boredom I gave up.

Is he so popular because they have made some brilliant films out of his books?

I think he has some pretty good ideas but they are not exactly genius or unique - a virus wipes out the world but a few people are left, a clown that scares people, a man goes mad in a desolate hotel, green aliens attack a group of men on a camping trip, and so on and so on.

Sure he is ok, but I definitely think he is completely overrated and this is probably because people have made such brilliant films out of his books.

I think Dean Koontz is a much better author. The ideas are completely unique and original and the characterisation is so much better, you almost fall in love with some of the characters.

Everyone seems to be forgetting the piece that was destroyed when his Killing Curse rebounded in Godric's Hollow.

1)Slytherin Locket
2)Hufflepuff Cup
3)Ravenclaw Diadem
4)Nagini
5)Diary
6)Ring
7)Harry Potter
8)Voldemort (After Godric's Hallow)

So didn't Voldemort think he made 8 horcruxes and not 7 like it states in the book

Writers:

How do you make your writing spell-binding, make it flow in a way so that your reader can't put it down, and just has to find out what's going to happen in the end?

Also, who are some examples of writers (I know J.K Rowling is one) that write in spell-binding ways?

As anyone who has been to my 360 site knows, I am a prolific writer; some of it it very good, actually.
My question is: How does one go about getting published? I know not to send anything unsolicited, and it's kind of difficult for me being in Iraq right now, since I can't just pick up a phone and call someone, but I know you need an agent. So how do you know which are the good ones and which are the scammers?

Where do you hear about new books? Which sources do you trust for recommendations (like friends, book club, recommendations from a book seller online)?

If you just browse for books at a store or library, what makes you pick a particular book? The cover? The length? The title? Something else?

I'm trying to expand my range of books that I read (because I read too much fantasy-type books), so I want to know how other people pick their books... maybe that will get me to be a little more pro-active in finding new books.

I own quite a few books and have read quite a lot of classics but would like to try something else.

I don't like romantic books or girly chick lit, I'm not a fan of those Richard and Judy type books either.

I'm quite interested in learning a bit more about WWI (but I've got Birdsong, so don't recommend that), but I'mquite open to things - but I can't stand "supermarket" books.

And not Harry Potter because I've already read it.

I asked this question before. How did Fred Weasly die???? I've re-read the page where it says he dies seven or eight times but I still don't understand it. I deleted my question that said the question right in Large Print and I realized this, so I deleted it and asked it more safely.
