Hey all. I'm thinking I'd like to try some collaborations, re-write work or things like that to broaden the scope of my writing, but I'm wondering what all the members of the group can do to protect themselves from having their ideas stolen were anyone less than scrupulous to cross our path?

I can write poetry in a minute flat, and it's truly amazing. I love writing. I'm in a junior grade level Language Arts class, though i'm only an eighth grader.
But the problem is...i suck so bad at other subjects. I have to try extremely hard to succeed in those classes, where in Language Arts i rarely need to study to pull an A.
So my question is...Is there any way i can put my L.A. skills into learning more in the other subjects. Or any way, really? Please, i just don't get the other subjects. They seem stupid to me. History i'm pretty good at, but that's only because i imagine myself in that time period, and learn that way. But i think i'm slightly Mathematically and Scientifically retarded.
HOW DO I GAIN IN WHAT I SUCK AT???

Did Agatha Christie ever use the character name "Cricket" in one of her books ? I am writing a British murder mystery play, and I want to be careful I am not duplicating a character name, or at least be able to give credit where credit is due. Unless it is a common nickname? Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about comics but I did grow up on Superman and Batman...I know that they have brought those back with graphic novels by artists like Frank Miller (I think I have those titles written down somewhere) but I want to understand the history more...

their is golden, silver, earth one, earth two, and i think something called like earth b..etc. The comic world is confusing! I was wondering if their is just one book or novel that is the Golden Age DC comics (froms 40s to 50s?)

I am not someone who is out to collect comic books, but it would be nice to familiarize myself with the history a little better. Thanks.

It was a kid's mystery chapter book, Nancy drew maybe?
The detectives were at an excercise place, w/ pools, tennis courts etc. There had been a vandalism, and someone had poured white paint in one pool, and green in the other. Later I think they may have been trapped in a laundry room, and they wrote on the window with soap, but that may have been from a different book I read. Anyway, that's about all I remember, so sorry! If you have any idea what book this may have been, please let me know!
Peace to all,
a bookworm

I'm 15 and I'm looking for a good read. If it helps I'm a sucker for books that have a sweet romance and I'm not that fond of sad endings but they're okay if it really adds to the story. I'm not looking for a fantasy novel or some depressing autobiography.
I just finished the Lord of the Flies, and even though it was boring, the message behind it and the numerous metaphors made it one of my favorite books.
Also, "What Happened to Lani Garver", "Twilight", "New Moon" and "Candy" are other books I really enjoyed.
I like anywhere from humor to drama as well, but remember...not too sad.

Yes, a lot of detail, but I would really like some suggestions if you have any :).

At the end of book three, Dumbledore tells Harry that not only was it honourable for him to save Pettigrew's life, but that someday he will likely be thankful that he did it.

Did I miss this in books 4, 5, and 6? Or is it going to play a role in book 7?

She chose to walk alone
Though others wondered why
Refused to look before her,
Kept eyes cast upwards,
Towards the sky.-

She didn't have companions
No need for earthly things.
Only wanted freedom,
From what she felt were
Puppet strings.-

She longed to be a bird. That she might fly away.
She pitied every blade of grass
For planted they would stay.-

She longed to be a flame,
That brightly danced alone.
Felt jealous of the steam
That made the air its only home.-

Some say she wished too hard.
Some say she wished too long.
But we awoke one autumn day
To find that she was gone..-

The trees, they say stood witness.
The sky refused to tell.
But someone who had seen it said
The story played out well.-

She spread her arms out wide.
Breathed in the break of dawn.
She just let go of all she held...-

And then she was gone.

In a world where no one remembers she exists
She wants to be the one, the one whose name you chant
As she steps toward the mike
Dreams like waves crash
Violently into rocks
DESTROYED
In the crowd she stands
Knowing she could do better
Looking up at those who have lost their glitter
Now she stands guitar in her hands
And upon the stage rips open her veins
Under the light she bleeds
With each cheer dying that little bit more
Pain flowing out to entertain the masses
Dead dead dead
What a fool to think this is what she craved
Beyond her reach now is the life she once lived
And now I urge you to take her place
To sell your soul and stand upon the stage
In the crowd she stands
Knowing she could do better
Looking up at those who have lost their glitter
And tonight she is plotting their demise
So rise up against those stars that no longer shine
And knock them from their throne
Bask in your own glory
In the crowd you stand
Looking up at those who have lost their glitter
Knowing you could do better
You could do better
You could do better

First, I started my book, Horseback Dreams, when I was nine. I completed it right before my tenth birthday (I'm ten now). It has 8000 words and about 80 pages (double spaced). I sold bookmarks to raise money for my local Humane Society. I told them about my book. They told me I could sell the bookmarks and my book at a fair that they would have in October. I sold over 25 books which sold me out. So far in total I have probably raised over $400 in total from selling each book for five dollars. Now it is at Borders and another local bookstore. Borders also celebrated a yearly Reading Day and asked me to sign books and read a passage from it. I sold out there, also, and took another waiting list for people! Since then, I have met the Governor and other representatives. Tomarrow I am going to be at a writing class with my book. The writing is for adults! Do you think I have done very well so far?
