Job 34:4 - Let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn together what is good.
I think god wants us to experience and learn, so that we can discern what is just, and what is unjust. I'd say that you SHOULD read it, keeping in mind (of course) that it is a tale, and not to be taken as the word of god.

If you are secure in your faith, why should the words of a book written years ago bother you? If you are secure in your faith then you should know that the "devil" isn't going to jump out of the pages of any book.
Look, if you look for "evil" and "sin" and the "devil" everywhere you go, in everything you see, read, or hear you will find it. And live your life full of fear, hate, distrust and then the "bad guys" win.
Don't be so judgmental and narrow-minded. Take a chance, if you don't like it or you feel it is not right for you then you just stop reading it. Or watching it. The bible is a collection of stories written down hundreds of years after all those spoken of were long gone. It is a loose translation from the original writings that was edited by men who had personal, political, and yes, religious agenda's. You can't take every word as factual or correct. There is still much we have to learn about God & Jesus, it is up to us to do the research and find the truth beyond the inconsistancies that are in the bible. Best wishes.

There is a book called "Finding God in The Lord of the Rings" by Kurt Bruner and Jim Ware. Maybe you should find that and read it. And the author, J.R.R. Tolkein was a christian. So I believe it is perfectly fine to read and watch LOTR.
I LOVE Lord of the Rings and I'm a Christian.
Hope this helped...

i'm sorry but i don't have any verses to go along with my answer. but i think it's fine to watch/read lotr. Tolkien was a VERY devote catholic. he helped bring C.S.Lewis to Jesus. lotr presents the truth, evil does exist but in the end good shall win. there actually is a book called 'Finding God in the Lord of the Rings' that shows some points where Tolkien let his faith show in his writings. i've read part of it and it's VERY cool. you should get a copy from your library or somewhere.
peace and God bless

There's no need for Bible verses, because exploring books and other texts is not un-Christian, but opposingly, can help to reinforce the values that you hold dear. And in reality, while God is not addressed in LOTR, many themes of the Bible are, ie, friendship, loyalty, faith. Being Christian does not mean you must limit yourself to the Bible alone, because you only limit the possibilities you can explore in finding Bible themes across many types of literature and culture.

Well, I cant give you any Bible verses but, I believe that as long as you know you are reading fantasy and don't change your Christian values or beliefs because of it, you should read any books you want..I wouldnt read anything satanic or the occult because that would be too scary and influential but fantasy stories like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are fine...

You really have to follow your own convictions on stuff like this. Many people will try to judge your actions by their own convictions, which is not right or fair. So, if you feel it's wrong in your heart to watch LOTR, then you'll know not to watch it any longer. Best of luck to you.

Satan mixes lies with truth. If there's very little arsenic in a glass of milk, are you going to drink it? If someone doesn't think it's wrong to grow pot, are you going to smoke it? All of your arguments for it are weak. Here's a great argument against it: "Finally brothers, what soever things are lovely, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are honest. If there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think on these thing, and the peace of God, which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds, through Jesus Christ our Lord." Holy Bible. Just for your information, my name isn't Marlys. I don't know show to change it.

Lord of the Rings has good Christian values. Friendship. Taking care of the Earth. Not listening to Evil People.
-Psalm 23 It is better, much better, to have wisdom and knowledge than gold and silver

There's nothing wrong with it.
There's very little magic, and it's just a good message, friendship, brotherhood, good overcoming evil, and evil being hidden in the most commonplace, and beautiful objects.
Tolkien himself was Christian and often talked about it, and he didn't think it was wrong to write the books so why should it be wrong for you to read them?
